Import American dog via Canada

I'm fairly up-to-date on the procedures of bringing my black-lab into Zurich in the near future. I've got all the right forms, RFIDs, etc. However, since I'm currently living near Seattle, I'd like to limit the duration of the flight into Zurich, and also make it direct.

Since I'm Canadian, i was thinking of heading home for the Christmas holidays (by car), bringing my Meagan with me, and then flying directly from Montreal to Zurich.

Will i need all sorts of paperwork about my dog from a *Canadian* veterinarian now, in *addition* to the USA papers? Or will my USA papers be okay, since both Canada and USA are non-quarantine countries for importing dogs to Switzerland, and because I don't reside in Canada, and because Meagan will have only been in Canada for less than a week?

Anybody know how i'll find the definitive answer on this?

Many thanks!

Brian.

You might have to ask the airline...I think it mostly depends on what the airline and country you're entering require. you can always email the swiss vet office and ask: http://www.bvet.admin.ch/ that's where i would start.

Re: Import American dog via Canada

We drove through Canada and back out on our way to our flight in Boston, so I don't know the rules about putting a dog on a plane in Canada. Could you just rent a car and fly out of New York or Boston instead? We left from Boston via Swiss Airlines because it was the shortest non-stop flight I could find.

Oh, and were not expecting it but on the morning of the 7pm flight my husband had to drive 2 hours to the State Vet. in Massachusetts for some last minute stamps on the dog's vaccination records (due to the fact that she needed her last booster or check up close to the date of the flight).
