| | Pet Store in Zurich... and Rx Cat Food... and a vet
Hi, we're moving next week to Zurich, and my friend has offered to pick up a litter tray, litter, etc. from a pet store for us. I found one online once upon a time, but now haven't been able to find that link again! Does anyone have a recommendation of a website for me?
Also, we're packing our cat's special prescription diet in our suitcases, but is there 'prescription' food available at pet stores? This is a recent development, as we were giving her holistic hippie pet food prior to becoming a mentalist.
And finally, does anyone have a great vet? I'm sure that we're going to need one sooner or later. Our cat is kind of mental, so she's surely going to freak out and get herself sick with the move. I'd like to have a vet on hand in case that happens.

Which prescription food is your cat currently on?
Prescription food is indeed 'prescription' here - only available from vets, not in stores. However, if your vet sets up an order form for you, you can generally re-order direct from the Swiss distributor for delivery to your home.
(Do be prepared for the sticker shock when you see what prescription food costs here...)
Hills and Royal Canin seem to be the prescription foods most available here - if your cat is eating something else, I'm sure your new vet will be able to help you find it, or an appropriate alternative.
Hope the move goes well, both for you and the cat.

Thanks! It's not so much that I want to order online; I just want to send links to my friend so she knows what to look for (she's not a cat person).
I can only imagine the sticker shock of prescription food... we're Chicago people, so Royal Canin is what we feed her. I'll bring the prescription card from the US and see what they say.

They have Royal Canin at Qualipet and Cats & Dogs. Both shops are easily found in every medium-big towns.
Concerning litter and litter boxes, you find them everywhere, including the common supermarkets (Migros and Coop) which are obviously cheaper.
For the litter, I recommand Catsan, which is a bit more expansive but much more efficient, so cheaper in the long run.

I've only had experience with a couple of vets within Zone 10. One of them is Dr Buchler in Hongg (kreis 10). Dr Buchler is very experienced, extremely professional and a highly skilled surgeon. He did my dog's castration and removal of an extra toe with minimal scarring (in fact, I cant find any!). His details are:
Dr. med. vet. Emil Büchler
Hohenklingenstrasse 45
8049 Zürich
Tel. +41 (0) 44 341 07 07
The other vet that I used to live near was Dr Angela Beltracchi (also in Kreis 10 and down the road from Dr Buchler). She has a much warmer personality than Dr Buchler. I've only gone to her for shots so I cant comment much.
Kleintierpraxis
med. vet. Angela Beltracchi
Brunnwiesenstrasse 78
8049 Zürich
Tel. +41 (0) 44 341 40 75
I am sure other dog owners will have their own recommendations for vets within Zone 10 for you soon

You're in Wollishofen, which is just next to Rueschlikon. I can't recommend my vet enough. She and her husband are absolutely brilliant. My two boys actually love going there. When I bring out the cat-carrier, instead of running away, they get in...
They also have all the prescription diet foods. Kleintierpraxis Leu
Dres. med. vet. Leu Daniela u. Thomas Sprechstd. n. Vereinb. auch Akupunktur
Bahnhofstrasse 64

I have a Devon rex, and he has developed a food allergy since being here. The vet I use does not have aggergy food available, and we have no idea what he is allergic to. He had a huge lump on his neck that we had removed , the biopsy came back as a food allergy. He scratched his neck like crazy for the next 2 months , we thought that hole would never close up. Any of you have a cat with a basic food allergy, and what food do you feed your cat? I have had problems ordering from Qualipet , I order my marstall horse food from them and they keep forgetting to order it , so glad to know about pet world.

My cats are on those as well, and it's just a hassle to buy them from the vet and carry eveything back without a car...
