| | Pet Crematorium near Vevey or Lausanne
Hi all, Wonder if anyone can help me? My poor old dog, a Jack Russell, has a very large tumour inside his body and for now he is coping fairly well on various drugs. However my vet in Spain has said that he will probably not survive for much longer than another few weeks. I have moved back to Switzerland with him and my wife would like him to be cremated after he dies or has to be put down. I was wondering if anyone near Lausanne or Vevey knows of or has experience of a good ethical Pet Crematorium that does individual cremations. Of course we would be willing to travel as far as Bern, or Aigle in the other direction for the right service. | This user would like to thank Brightonite for this useful post:

I am really sorry for this awful situation you are in. It's such a heartbreaking decision to have to make.
We used the services of the Kleintierkrematorium Kirchberg when it was time to say goodbye to our much loved pets. It is in Canton Berne, not exactly close to Vevey I know, but they provide a very dignified service and individual cremations.

I am very sorry to hear about your dogs health. www.cremadog.ch
Although they are listed as being in Neuchatel, they picked up one of my dogs when she passed away from my vet here in Geneva and delivered her back to the vet within 5 days.
It has been a few years, but I believe the cost was around 300 francs for a 50kg Bullmastiff.

I'm so very sorry; you have my sincere sympathy.
In addition to those already posted, here is a list of Tierkrematorium in Switzerland, from the STS site: http://www.tierschutz.com/publikatio...eimtiertod.pdf
My vets made the arrangements for us each time; speak with your vet, ask who they recommend.
Mine have all been cremated at Schafisheim, who were very understanding, very caring. (A bit too far for you, I'd assume.)
It's good that you are thinking of practicalities now; I've found it helpful to write down what I want in advance, and give that info to the vet. Then when the time comes, as I'm usually not thinking straight, the vet makes sure all the necessary arrangements are done.
Cherish the time you have left - and when the day comes, may you find peace and take comfort in the memories of all that you and your dog have shared .

Brightonite, havent seen your posts on here for some time and I am sorry it has to be under such circumstances. Dont have any experience in that area for the information you need - just wanted to offer my wishes and my thoughts are with you and your furry friend during this difficult period.

'Constantly tripping over annoying dog carcasses around your home? Have we got a product for you!'
Sorry for the humor Brightonite. They do provide dignified service despite their name.

A pet crematorium opened last month in Lausanne. Your vet should have details of it - if not go into the Internet site of the SPA - Societé des Protection des Animaux for Vaud. I don't have the exact address to hand, but this should get you on the site.
It's never easy to lose a beloved friend - my thoughts are with you. Please give your JR a gentle hug from me.

Merrylegs, Many thanks for your reply. I have checked out this place and it looks perfect for our needs. I believe that it was set up with the aid of Cremadog which ExMilExPat put me onto.
I'm just hoping that it will be a little while longer before we have to go there. Many thanks to everyone for their help. | Quote: | | | | | A pet crematorium opened last month in Lausanne. Hi Brightonite,
I know how you feel. Our English Setter finally succumbed to an auto-immune disease he'd had since a pup in April and within three months his buddy Border Collie had to be put down owing to a big tumour. Suddenly the house is very empty. All the usual routines a constant reminder. We used Cremadog and our vet made all the arrangements with them. It cost around CHF 370 for an individual cremation - make sure you request this if you want it. They collected our dogs from the vet and sent the ashes back in a box within the week by post. Don't forget to notify your commune when the inevitable happens.

It must be really difficult. Have you considered getting another dog(s)? I know some people might say it's too soon, but I think for me an empty house would be awful.

We've always had dogs and cats and taken them with us on all our travels. This is the first time since we've been married that we're without one or the other. They leave a big hole.

Very sadly my best friend and shadow for the last thirteen years became very uncomfortable and a little distressed during the night on Sunday. First thing Monday morning he could hardly walk and didn't want his food so we took him to the vets in my arms and we all agreed that the poor little mite should be should be saved from any further indignation, unhappiness or pain. The vet was really gentle and he gave my boy a sedative before the lethal injection. We said our goodbyes whilst he looked up at me with his sad little eyes and faded away.
The vet had arranged for someone to collect him from Crematoire Animalier de Seon http://www.tierkremation.ch/site.php?id=1&langid=2 and they will deliver his ashes to us by the weekend.
He had a lovely life and he will give me very special memories for the rest of mine.

A part of us dies together with our beloved pet when its their time. Not an easy decision to make at all but you did the right and best thing - bestowing on your faithful companion the dignity he deserves at the end of his life.
My thoughts are with you Brightonite. I believe that he is in a much better place with other doggies, playing catch, no cats, infinite amount of treats and no one to tell him "no!".

So sorry to hear about your pooch. Just dont forget after he's gone to call the chip company to de-register him. I forgot to do that after we put down my Chihauhau and got a few months later the bill for dog tax since he was still in the system. | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post:
