Re: The Pet Boarding Thread - Recommendations and Advice. NO ADS IN HERE

Hello! We are moving to Basel in about 3 weeks and will be bringing our Siamese Cat girl with us. She is nearly 2 and has always lived in the house with us. Moving to a flat in itself might be a little stressful but I am sure she will settle fine.

We are planning on taking a holiday in the Summer and may have a couple of weekends back to the UK. Can people recommend some catteries in the Basel area or other boarding facilities where you can leave your cats overnight for extended periods such as 2 weeks for a holiday? It would be good to know of people's experience as I know how much I want our girl to be happy!

She has always been an indoor cat and came from a home with lots of cats, but has lived as our only pet for 2 years so not sure how she would cope being in a room with lots of cats. She has occasionally gone in the garden at home but has never been an outdoor wandering around cat.

Appreciate anyone's response and review along with rough price guidelines?

Our cats always stay at

http://www.katzen-hotel.ch/

It's in Allschwil, very close to Basel. Cats have their own rooms (also singles), as it should be with a hotel. Very dedicated staff, I always bring my own brand of food though as they feed exclusively some very special super natural organic stuff which my cats absolutely hate. It's a bit pricey, but well worth going on holidays without having to worry about the wee beasties. They are always healthy and relaxed when we pick them up, so they seem to enjoy their stay.

We just went here to visit today after your reccommendation. It seems like a nice place but the cats definitely do NOT have their own rooms and there are no single rooms. Infact she advised that in most cases the cats are in a 12 room.

To me this is not acceptable as 12 cats in one room is very stressful and I would rather send my cat somewhere where she is alone in a room. Maybe more lonely but online advice suggests that catteries should NEVER allow contact with other cats from other households.

If anyone knows of any catteries/hotels that take cats into Single rooms that would be great.

Alternatively has anyone had experience of cat sitters? My only concern is my cat being alone for so many hours a day, but if the pet sitter was good and played with her for a while during the visits I think she would be ok

DOG BOARDING NEEDED EASTER WEEKEND (!) ZURICH-WOLLISHOFEN

My dog care arrangements have just fallen through at the last minute. I am a mature student in Zurich, staying in a motorhome by the lake at Wollishofen with Flapjack my (very friendly) Norfolk Terrier. I have tickets to fly back to England for a short Easter Break tomorrow (Saturday returning Wednesday) and cannot take the dog (UK regs).

Can anybody recommend a convenient English speaking dog boarding facility which might be able to take Flapjack at short notice / are there any pet lovers out there who would like to adopt-a-dog-for-Easter?

We've started to use My Dog Care in Kollbrunn, near Winterthur. (Http://Mydogcare.ch) . They do boarding and doggie day care, the people are very nice, and before your dog stays, they have a test - the dog comes for a day. Lily comes home tired, and since she plays outside, a bit dirty, but I can't complain.
My dog stayed there couple of times, usually for 5+ days. We were quite happy, the people are nice indeed. Until I picked up my dog with a nasty eyes infection. The staff didn't call me to tell sth is wrong, and didn't tell me about this problem when I came there. I gave them another chance last week, and guess what... one eye infected again

That's unfortunate! Well, i'll get my dog on Tuesday....so far so good, but you never know. Did you tell them about the infection - what did they say?

After I came there the 2nd time I told them about the infection and that I want to be informed about stuff like this. They nodded and agreed. The thing is, I noticed the 2nd infection only when I came home with my dog. So I don't know, a coincidence perhaps. I don't want to try again.

No problems so far, the owners are really friendly. They will come to the Pfaeffikon station if asked.

We have used www.pet-hotel.ch (located in Wila) a few times for our 2 dogs and both seem to have enjoyed it. They stress they are a "pet hotel" and not a boarding kennels, which may be the justification for their higher costs!

Not sure where you are, but the tierheim belp used to board small animals. Haven't lived there for a few years, so not sure what they do now.

For Zurich we take our dog to hundeabenteuerland. They pick up and drop off near Zurich HB and Chris and Agatha are awesome. They even post pictures of the dogs.

I have been taking my dog to Hunde Abenteuer Land in Zurich. It's been 3 years already and I am very happy with them.

http://www.hundeabenteuerland.ch/english.html

They have different drop off spots. They don't crate your dog during the stay. They treat your dog like their own. You get to see all these pictures of their daily adventures online. Helps when your away from your dog for so long. The owners are a married couple Christopher & Agata. They speak English and are super friendly!

A gentle reminder that if you need dog/cat boarding for Christmas (as well of course as all main holidays, Easter, July/August)- you really need to plan eraly and find a solution asap- as it will be near on impossible nearer the time.
