Dogs arriving in Basel [Vet? Registration?]

Does anyone know of a vet in the Reinach/Munchenstein/Dornach area that speaks English. my dog is due to arrive in Basel early August and I understand that I have to register him within 10 days - is this correct?? Also how much can i expect to pay for this and do I need to pay a handling charge at the airport (arriving as Cargo). Thank you

I paid 200 CHF handling fee at Zurich airport when my cat arrived. YMMV.

I can recommend the Vet on Bottmingerstrasse 17, Binningen, outside of Basel. They all speak English. As for cost no idea it cost me 80 CHFs for my cats to be Microchipped. Hope it all goes well.

Cats don't need to be registered, dogs do.

The cost varies by kanton - check with the local town hall - some issue a tag to be worn on the coller and some just register the microchip.

Re: Dogs arriving in Basel [Vet? Registration?]

Dog arrived safely!! He was initially going to be going throught her cargo dept but we were called that day by the airport to say he could come through the passenger area - we were allowed through, so he came through the passenger terminal in his crate, once we had gone through passport control they let him out, checked him over and no charge was made! Have since registered him in the canton at a charge of 150chf and he got a tag to prove it!! Don't need the vets as he is already microchipped.

Thanks to the replies and hope this info helps anybody else

Hi Nutbat!
Found this site by chance this evening and interesting to see how other South Africans are adapting especially with their pets! We too have relocated here with our three cats!! Your suggesting Bottmingerstrasse makes us wonder whether we are neighbours. Do you live in Binningen?

moving to basel with family and dog

Hi,
We are moving to Basel shortly with our dog. Does anyone know of a good English-speaking vet, please? We have a pet passport and all her information up-to-date.
Thank you
