Some cats deal with the cone better than others.
I was very lucky to have an appointment with veterinary dermatologist last week. There are not many of them in Switzerland. She made a lot of tests and found nothing but bacterial infection of the wounds. And she prescribed the cone to the cat. I have to say that the cat is doing very well in the cone. He is a bit disoriented but seems not to be disturbed by it much. And he definitely has less pain now when he doesn’t touch his head any more. So our cat seems to deal with the cone very well.

Advice is needed - my kitten is sick

A little off topic, but we just had our 10 year old dog put under to remove a tumor on her face and she had no problems. Not sure which vet you used but we went to the tierspital in ZH and as much as they run around with their heads in their asses, they took good care of her.

OP - could it be food allergies and the wounds are not healing because she keeps scratching? One of our cats got stung on the face by a bee, but she didn't have a reaction similar to what your kitty is experiencing.

I hope you figure it out soon.

Re: Advice is needed - my kitten is sick

Oh, this is so sad! Actually once I had a kittie in the litter withexactly the same neurological problem, he was vomiting, limp and weak. He recovered but had recurrent episodes and eventually we decided to put him to sleep, poor thing. My theory is that he might actually have pain, sort of a bad "headache"... does it make sense to you?
I really hope you can find a good vet that helps him soon...

Re: Advice is needed - my kitten is sick

Thank you for you posts and attention to our cat I had an appointment with the dermatologist 2 weeks ago. Our cat is doing very well and recovering rapidly He is wearing a cone. He is also on a horse meat diet. He is taking oral antibiotic, and I also put antibiotic cream on his lesions. His lesions became really small! And best of all - the cat is feeling much better. He runs, plays a lot, jumps, gets everywhere just like any other kid. I am so happy I hope that soon we can take the cone off

I attach the photos of him from 2 weeks ago, 1 week ago and today.

Re: Advice is needed - my kitten is sick

I'm sorry to hear of your kittie's problems but so happy to know that the cone is helping to resolve the problem. One thing I didn't read about with other comments here is whether or not you have tried putting any plastic tips on his claws. They are called soft paws http://www.softpaws.com/about.html and can easily be glued on and help to eliminate scratching on furniture. I just thought about them when I resad your thread because I used them on my cats when my older one was going after the younger one and they would get into fights. It really helped to keep the blood from flying between them. Perhaps it might help if you little one still has a problem when the cone comes off.

Good luck and I do hope he/she is feeling much better.

Thank you for the link! This is a very good idea, I have ordered the plastic tips after I read you post The kitten now feels fine, he is off any medication but he still wears the cone. The doctor says that we can try taking it off. With those plastic tips we will try, thanks

Thanks a lot 33foxglove for the information about soft paws. This product is really the best solution for us so far. The cat was terrified at first when we were applying the soft paws. But later he has become very comfortable with them. After wearing a cone for almost 2 months he feels great to be without it. I am very happy with the soft paws.

Economisto, how is your cat? I thought maybe this would be a good solution for him as well.

Homeopathy is not better than nothing and will not help your cat recover. If your cat needs proper care and treatment, homeopathy will merely prolong the suffering.
How do you know????

Thanks The kitten is really very cute

About the scratching – I have seen several vets, including a university professor. They couldn't tell me why exactly he is scratching. All we know is that it comes from the accident. Also he has not completely recovered after the bee sting in some more ways. He makes strange noise while eating (cannot move his jaws well), and recently we have learned that one of his eyes is blind. And he is scratching. But when he cannot scratch (with the cone or the soft paws) then he doesn't seem to be in discomfort. He is a happy and active cat, very playful. So I decided not to make any tests about his scratching any more. He feels good in the soft paws. This product really improves his live at the moment.
