Can I donate dog food, etc to a dog rescue centre?

Both of our Golden Retrievers passed away recently and we have quite a bit of dog paraphernalia that we don't need including two x 10kg bags of dry dog food, dog mats, etc.

Would a dog rescue centre take these as a donation? I haven't had much luck finding one in the area (Horgen ZH), I don't really know what word to search on in German.

The word is 'tierheim'.

All this time I didn't realise that Tierheim means animal shelter despite leaving our dogs there a number of times. I guess it explains why they occasionally send a letter asking for donations.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Don't forfeit the food - get another dog!
The Tierheim will have lots of fab dogs looking for a home

Yep, this is a very old post, but it fits, so, here we go:

A friend told me about this group that is collecting animal toys, blankets and everything else animals need, for example when someone's animal has died:

They give the stuff to animal shelters in Switzerland and abroad.

Thanks for the link, Idgie!

As I go into spring cleaning mode I really should simplify the mutts' lives as well as mine. Off to the cellar to put a box together...

Re: Can I donate dog food, etc to a dog rescue centre?

There are two threads covering this topic. Maybe a mod can merge them?

Dog Supplies- donate

It seems opened food is difficult to donate. We had to switch our eldest dog (15 1/2 years old) to a special food and she disliked what we bought even though we had started with a 2kg trial size and mixed it with her old food. So we had an almost full 12 kg bag of a Hills prescription food.

We took it to the Tierheim in Waldshut-Tiengen in Germany. They were very grateful and had no issues with the fact the bag was opened.

Here is the info if anyone has items to donate.
