Hiking on sunday (16th Jan) anyone?

I`m thinking of an easy mountain hike this sunday (16th Jan) if anyone is interested.
Sorry I can`t be more specific at the moment - except to say around 5 hours duration - up to around 1100 metres - not too far from Zürich - leaving Zürich HB at around 08.00 sunday morning (okay okay, I can be a little flexible on that).
I`ll post more details tonight.
Cheers . . . . Basher.

Okay - its a 4 hour hike from Pfaeffikon to Biberbrugg - via ETZEL which is 1096 metres - so nothing hard.
Meeting at the Zurich HBF `meeting point ` at 08:30 on sunday morning.
Please PM me if you want to come. I will wait for 10 minutes before I leave. The travel is by S-BAHN to Bahnhof Pfaeffikon and then returning from Biberbrugg.
Sorry its all a bit late but I only decided today. Cheers,
Basher.

Re: Hiking on sunday (16th Jan) anyone?

I have done a few variants of this hike last year. One I particularly remember was descending from Etzel to Pfaffikon through the barely discernible bergweg (but if you keep going up you won't miss it); it is very steep and was soggy from melting snow, so very slippery. I had to gingerly support and get my wife down safely (but when I get her into such situations I get her out also gallantly ).

Actually it is not dangerous; you can slide a few hundred feet (max), but it is on soft soil so you will just get dirty, not injured. What I am saying is, hard boots that can kick and bite into the soil, along with walking poles can be useful. I can see snow in the last few metres of Etzel; the rest should be snow-free due to the steepness. The direction chosen is good IMO; it is more fun to climb up steep inclines than down.

I also remember my hands getting numb and she helped me into them...so carry gloves just to be prepared!

Actually instead of walking all the way from Pfaffikon you can consider taking the bus to Etzelpasse (if you want the above more challenging route; I would estimate that section to be of SAC T3 difficulty), or Feusisberg post; this will take you to Etzel by an easier route (T2); both buses start from Pfaffikon.

I can't make it tomorrow, but I can highly recommend it for those I hope will join Basher.
