Competitive cycling in Zurich

I was a competitve junior cyclist but I havent ridden for about 5 years. I am looking to get back into it, to improve my fitness and to see some of greater Zurich.

Looking for anyone in a similar boat, for social rides initially, but I do hope to join a cycling club in the future and perhaps begin to compete again.

BTW - does anyone know of a cycling club in Zurich?

I am a 25yr old female, but dont let that put you off. I can climb hills with the best of them, and really enjoy a challenge! I am looking to ride up to 50km a day initially.

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

Hi Kath,

I am in a cycling club in Winterthur (where my office is) where we do around 50-60 km on Wednesday evenings and ca. 100km on Saturdays with the occasional "serious" ride (140 - 220 km, 2500 - 5000 vm). In Zürich, Velo Elsener (http://www.velo-elsener.ch/) in Seefeldstr. do tours at 18:30 on a Tuesday evening.

I often go for a ride on the weekends if you want to join in. I usually start in Kreis 6 where I live and go to Rapperswil and return via Forch & Pfannenstiel.

regards,
Philip

In Zürich, Velo Elsener (http://www.velo-elsener.ch/) in Seefeldstr. do tours at 18:30 on a Tuesday evening.
Update: From the website, it looks like this ride is now on Wednesday evenings, and alternates weekly between road bikes or mountain bikes (http://www.velo-elsener.ch/index.asp?l=1&p=5).

Has anyone done this ride? I am curious what the general speed and route is like.

Personally I like a group ride to push me harder than I would normally push myself (to see how long I can hang on!). Usually that means riding with mostly guys, but I'm used to that... Cover an interesting route with few cars, and sprinkle it with a few hill KOMs, and it's so much fun you don't even think about exercise

Anyone know of a good road bike group ride around the Zurich area that might apply?

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

Hi, I'm looking for Road bike groups or people to ride with around the Zurich area. I'm new to Switzerland so I'm not too familiar with the routes but I'd be happy to join anyone who wants a person to ride with, if so please contact me. I'm a 34 yr old male. I do inline skate marathons but fairly new to cycling so I'm not very fast on a bike but can do 50km or so no problem.
Regards,
Raph

We, EF, have a regular Thursday night ride inthe Zurich area. We usually ride two hours with lots of hill climbing, pace-wise you will have to see, but if you are fit you should be able to keep up with the at least the back of the pack (which is me), if not the front, you do inline skating marathons so I think you will probably be more than fine.

The ride is posted in the Social section.

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

We also have occasionally have other rides, but these are put together on a more ad hoc basis. For example next Saturday we are climbing up Klausen pass to watch the Tour de Suisse time trial

Hi, Raph- I am in a similar situation: new to cycling but relatively phsically fit. I am in Kreis 6 - let me know if you are still looking to bike with someone.

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

Hi / Hoi Zäme

Cyclone (http://www.cyclonebikes.ch/ - speak with Falk or Danny) also do a Thursday evening ride at 18:30. I have done the Züri Metzgete twice as well as the Alpenbrevet and various other events. Distances of up to 250Km per day or 5-6000 Hm are about my limit. I live in Kreis 6 and work at Mythenquai but don't have much condition at the moment.

Anyone interest in riding with me can reach me via PM

Regards / Gruss
Philip

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

Just adding my name to the bottom of this extended thread - I'm working in Zurich on and off over the next few weeks, I've hired a bike from http://www.the-bike-store.ch (ok-ish bike). Wodering if anyone fancies a ride this week (14th September) on Monday Tuesday or Wednesday nights?

Last week I managed Adlisberg one night and Uetliberg another - but I confess to being rather slow up Uetliberg! (not that I was fast up Adlisberg) We don't have many mountains in London..... Looking to ride maybe 30 - 50Km+ after work, not especially up mountains but happy to try anything. (I'm staying around Altstetten)

Competitive cycling in Zurich

Hi,

I have recently moved to Zurich and would like to know there is a chaingang already established or a serious bunch of riders who would be interested in getting together for regular rides. I used to road race at pro level for a couple of years but for the last five years I have done absolutley no cycling. You could say that I am currently at a moderate amateur level. However I would like to build up my fitness again and it would help to go out with a bunch of riders or a rider who know(s) the area pretty well. I am looking to ride with an individual or group for 1.5 to 2 hrs one day during the week and 3hrs duing the weekend.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Cheers.

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

Hi,

I am always looking for training partners, even when the weather isn't great. Most rides I know only ride/train in sunny weather. Contact me directly for spontaneous rides.

I train with the following groups (mostly in German, let me know if you need translation):

http://www.asvz-velo.ch/aktuell.php (Saturdays, 10am at the Polyterrasse at the top of the Polybahn). 2 Groups: fast and faster.

http://www.cyclonebikes.ch/artikel/trainingsfahrten (ask for Dani Machiussi and mention Philip. He'll know. He speaks English, too. We often do Sunday rides though usually not more than 3-4 hours).

http://www.tempo-sport.ch/infos/even...maerz-ren.html

(Sundays at 9am).

I am interested to do some masochistic day tours if anyone is interested (think "Alpenbrevet Platinum" preparation): http://www.alpenbrevet.ch/2011/index...ken_platin.php

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

Hi theMagus, I have just moved to Zürich and would like to meet a cycling group that I could join. For the past month I haven´t cycled much but until then I use to compete so I would train daily minimum 2 hours.
The groups you mentioned, could I just show up or should I do it any other way? Mostly I can do mornings and weekends but it varies as I have a son 2 years old and it all depends on having someone to look after him.

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

There is a cycling community in bigger Zürich area which is quite active.
You can find some MTB and road/racing bike rides suitable for all levels from beginners to advanced:

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

Hi, Im just tagging on the end of this thread as I have been searching the forum (and google!) for any info on competitive cycling in Switzerland, ideally near the Luzern area. I am 38 years old, female and moving over with my Swiss Husband so thought this would be a fun way of meeting new people.

Does anyone know any cycling clubs in this area? Also Velodrome racing - does this exist in Switzerland? I can only find very limited info on this - and am currently getting my British Cycling accreditation so I can race in the Velodrome.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Competitive cycling in Zurich

Zurich Zug Peloton (ZZP) ride every Saturday morning out of Zug and around the Rigi area, its a club with loads of different nationalities that grew out of just being a meet up to now being a proper club

Check out their website
