Hi,

While planning to organize cooking course for OH; I found this interesting idea:

Cooking course + one night in Colmar. Learn to prepare few dishes from a Michelin-star chef! After which you can entertain your guests with the finest Alsatian dishes.

Cooking courses are normally good fun.

There is 4 places in my car from Basel to Colmar and back. Free of charge. Please let me know if you wish to come with me by car.

I have contacted hotel to provide me more details. Will post it as soon as I get it. The group should be around 6 people; and they can provide course in English.

Price: 139 EUR/per person (from web-site).

Meanwhile, this is from their web-pages:
The package includes:
- 1 night in a 3-star hotel in a double room with breakfast
- a cook class with the Chef of the renowned restaurant "Le Rendez-vous de Chasse", 1-star Michelin Guide. You will learn how to prepare regional dishes and get familiar with some regional produce. Preparation of two dishes. Afterwards, you will get comments of the chef with a fine glass of Alsace wine.
- a gastronomic dinner in the restaurant of your hotel"Le Rendez-vous de Chasse" (4 courses), without drinks
- the access to the Wellbeing Area of your hotel with sauna, hammam and fitness
Not included in the price:
Transport – beverages during meals – city tax - personal expenditures – cancellation insurance - other services not mentioned.

Re: Cooking Course in Colmar (leaving from Basel)

Hi,

I will update the reservation tomorrow, have to see if there are still more free places. Absolute maximum is 10, and I don't know if anyone has reserved some places. I currently hold a reservation for 5 people, will update it.

The room sharing can be arranged on the spot, or beforehand - however you prefer. The price is for the double room.

As for the car space - there seem to be 3 cars going; which is handy. I have Adrianlondon booked in (front seat, on demand , and e.g. Justsquirrel; Ich79 drives guest and Sagar_KD; and DELTA76 drives guest and Begga. Sounds good?

Re: Cooking Course in Colmar (leaving from Basel)

Since this weekend is over, time to start looking forward to the next one!

Is there any plan yet about when and where to meet?

p.s. I just discovered that Adrian snores!

Sorry Begga - that's only cos it was a rock hard mattress and the pillow was almost non existant. In a "proper" hotel room I should be fine!

Megan also snores (albeit very quietly).

Re: Cooking Course in Colmar (leaving from Basel)

Hi everyone!

What a wonderful weekend; it was really great to meet you all.

Special thanks to "Meeyat" and your wife for arranging, booking, dealing with the money etc. Also to Isa who drove me to Colmar and back and accepted my "oh look, my wallet is empty!" when it came time to pay

Oh, and Sagar I hear you dissed the Mini Clubman, the best of British engineering - how could you!!

Is the driver of the mini (don't want to use real names in case they're staying incognito) on this thread? I don't know your EF name.

Anyway, it was an interesting weekend of cooking preparation (we were used as commis chefs/slaves!), fine dining, comfy hotel, and Alsace touring. With sunshine all the way.

The four course (plus extra "tasters" or amuse bouches) was excellent as was the service.

Colmar is a very pretty town. Riquewihr even prettier.

Message me for my facebook ID where I'll eventually upload and share the photos. I'll also dump the "recipes" there.

Re: Cooking Course in Colmar (leaving from Basel)

Meeyat, thank you so much for setting this up and make the reservations for us.

The cooking part wasn't exactly what I expected, but we got the hotel and 4 meal delicious course (+ pre-appetizer and pre-desert) for a very reasonable prize and ended up having excellent time together. Today's tour round in Alsace wasn't bad either I'll arrange a proper day tour in late April/May when the Monkey park has opened.

Meeyat's OH, Justsquirrel, Wozel +1& Luzern-chick (what was your forum name again?) - Very nice to meet you all and I sincerely hope we meet again.
Wozel, really too bad you missed today!

The cooking course in Aarau I told you about is found here: Cook'n'eat
So in short 120 franks for it if we are 30 or more (don't know how we can pull that, maybe by advertising in other website / drag friends and co-workers?). I'd say it was worth it the time I went; we actually learned something useful AND got to eat it

Thanks so much for organising Meeyat, the weekend was great fun. A lovely location and great company!

(If anyone is staying in a hotel near the Comar station this week, I'd avoid the fois gras )
