UPDATE IN BLUE ON PAGE 3!!

Similar to Friday Night Drinks, but with pool happening in the background---and this time on a SATURDAY (gasp!).

We play, we drink, we just want to have fun! As always, come if you want to play, if you want to drink, if you want to meet new people, and/or if you are just interested in seeing what it is all about. It is usually a great crowd and all are welcome.

Location:
Billiardino
Heinrichstrasse 245

Any questions can be pm'ed to me or asked below. I will give a final update on the day of the event with my clothing selection and where we will be located in the pool hall based on the number of attendees (normally, we are either in the back left corner or in the front on the right side).

Looking forward to (hopefully) a great turnout!

Sorry I could only stay for a swift couple. I really don't trust me and the last train home to Budapest. Met a couple of new folk and I've forgotten names already, sorry I didn't meet Kevlegs, maybe next time.

Well I hope there'll be another pool evening again soon. I greatly enjoyed meeting so many interesting people.

One thing which needs addressing though is payment for tables: I hope you were not left in the lurch and having to subsidise. Everyone who played did contribute to JLF in some manner, I hope?

Everything was fine... probably b/c UPH paid for table 40. If I had to cover another 100CHF or so, I could have been in trouble. I never worry about these things b/c I figure if you have been brought up "right", you will come by, say goodnight and exchange a few other niceties, and pay for what you played. If not, well, then I hope you don't come back again anyway and feel karma will sort out the rest.

Maybe I should be more strict, but the social/lighthearted aspect of the night is really ruined by such talks. If consensus rules, and you guys want a flat "entrance fee" for the night of pool, we can do that too. Just voice it here so I know for future events.

I know. As usual, it is much appreciated.

I am quite busy in the next few months, so I will organize more social pool events, but probably not til May or so. Glad so many came out and had a good time and want me to continue organizing it. As long as there is interest, I will keep doing it.

Things aren't ruined but you end up out of pocket and those that forgot to pay their way probably won't be aware / remember they didn't pay. Unless the matter is raised, you're left with a hole in your pocket after already making the effort to arrange their entertainment.

Karma or not, it would be good if all who played and er, left the hall tired and emotional without contributing would consider their ways. The games weren't for free

I'm sorry to hear that JLF.
Given to experience of Basel Curry Nights, there seams to be loads of people that "don't realize" that the event isn't on the organizer - don't realize the water isn't for free, the beer isn't for free, or even don't realize that the food isn't for free.
So yes, you must be very strict on the money part unfortunately. Make it very clear that the tables aren't for free. Maybe I sound b1tchy when I ask people if they paid up when they come to say goodbye - but heck, I'm not going to pay for some peoples I'm meeting for the first time and perhaps will never meet again meal.
No shame in making it in red and in bold and with underline: THIS EVENT IS NOT FOR FREE!
Trust me, it works.

Maybe I am missing something, but didn't JLF just say that there was no problem? Enough people paid enough money, so the bill was settled? (If not, please correct me... I know it happened before, but the last nights I went to we didn't have the problem.)

So: Move along - nothing to see here.

What she wrote and what she knows may well be different things. I'm sure JLF doesn't want to cause a stink, but if it helps jogs people into remembering next time they meet and she ends up with a few extra CHF rather than a few less, it's worth mentioning.

Ok. I guess I did the same as most others: Asked how much I should put in and did so. If people paid too little, it was not necessarily people walking away without paying, but everyone chipped in just a few franks too few on average. I suggest that we next time simply put a couple of CHFs more in and in the case that it was too much simply use it for the next event then...
