Great idea!
Just one question... since we´ve never met, how do I find you?
I can walk around speaking Danish until someone reacts... but there may be easier ways |

We went several weeks ago. It was pretty cool...
Just be sure to let the cameras settle in when you get in the Butterfly house. Everything fogs up. It is about 35° in there...
And the creatures have a habit of wanting to land on your camera/lens and lay eggs.... Yes.. This actually happens... | The following 2 users would like to thank cmirsky for this useful post:

Don't kill me!
Seriousness aside, you should be able to spot a group of English speaking people with big cameras @ platform 10
I'm the foxy lady with the big smile! (If you catch me on a good day, I might be nice enough to give you my phone number just in case.) |

I have been many times and would like to add some hints. There are 2 major glass houses, and you can easily spend an hour in each. Dogs must be left outside! I would recommend leaving VERY small and VERY old people at home, maybe ages 5 to 75 are OK. There is a group discount available for more than 10 people: price reduced from Fr.17 to Fr. 14 or you can buy return train and entrance tickets from SBB Reisebüro with a good discount. It might seem expensive but it gives good value and has a good shop with "educational" toys and games.
The Arthropodarium exhibit presents a few species of each group within the arthropods: among arachnids, scorpions and bird-eating spiders have a place of choice. 5 species of phasmids, the masters of camouflage with their many astonishing forms and colours, can be discovered hidden in vegetation. Beetles, praying mantis and millipedes complete the picture.
Papilorama is sunlit, very warm and VERY humid. You need to dress for a holiday in the jungle, and then cover up with extra clothes for the train journey. There is usually plenty of room to leave your outdoor clothes in the garderobe. The butterflies are active when the sun is shining, but sit around with folded closed wings if the sky is overcast. There are waterfalls and a pond with a vicious fish which bites stray fingers. They import the Chrysalise (?) from Asia and you can see them hatching slowly.
Noctorama is very dark and smells of ammonia, the animal urine is not broken down correctly due to the lack of sunlight. It is slightly cooler and drier than Papillorama. This is a small zoo with nocturnal animals. Sometimes they are difficult to see, so patience is needed. There are also bats flying about, so be aware and they are harmless.
There is also a bar / café and outside a zoo with petting farm animals.

Went last Sunday and was very good. You have to strip off before entering the humid heat :-)
Tip
We got a discount using our TCS membership card "show your card" scheme. Adults 14 chf and child 7 chf. Saves 3chf for each adult and 1 chf for each child. Not a lot but it all helps !
Car parking is 3chf.
Enjoy !

Looking forward to Sunday!
Don't forget the clocks are changing... we'll all have to get out of bed what will seem like an hour earlier.

Looking forward to it too, I heard good things about the Papiliorama.
Coming by car and will be at the entrance around 13:00, watching out for english speaking folks with big cameras.

Sounds like a great idea - Meteo is promising rain all Sunday though, if Ittigen is right about the sunlight affecting the butterflies, maybe it's not the best day to go ?

Well, I hope that means it will be slightly less warm and maybe if the butterflies are less on the move - maybe it will be easier to shoot them.

So I went to SBB to buy my ticked in advance and the prize is apparently 51,40 with the discount, not 45
But she did ask me if I was still a student, ah, bless her.
Look forward to see everyone tomorrow! | This user would like to thank Begga for this useful post:
