How should a beginner with no gear go about joining the event? I've done a bit of climbing, but do not own shoes or harness. Can you rent there or am i better off buying?

Equipment:
- harness can be rented for approx 5 chf.
- shoes can be rented, or you can use own indoor trainer shoes.
Absolute beginner:
- the instructor can be reserved. The cost of the instructor is 55 chf / hour. For the whole group you need approx 2 hours instructions. If there is 4 people the cost is approx 33 chf for instructions (130 / 4) and 20 chf for entry (I think harness is included in the instruction price, but if not then it is 5chf extra)
- IMPORTANT: it may be too late to book an instructor for this week's Friday. The best is to call kletterhalle7 and ask.
Otherwise - organize yourselves for next week. Two or three absolute beginners (or more), let me know if you are coming for sure and I will make all the reservations for you.

beginners are welcome. The venue will rent out harnesses if you need them and shoes if you have none suitable. They also do courses for beginners, CHF 55 per hour IIRC which is money well spent.
The group is mostly beginner to intermediate anyway and will help with new people.

Megan,
if you are running late, we may be climbing already. The best would be to hang around reception or sit on chairs next to the reception. We will inform the receptionist that one person is late, and she can point our group.
How we can recognize you?

I'll be wearing capri length pants with yellow stripes on the side. I'll wander around.

Posting a reminder for everyone... Mods why does this not show up in the events on the front page? o-o-
we have about 3 pairs regularly attending, at various levels so can accomodate more coming
Afterwards usually a quick drink in e-ipsos... |

no idea about kids' classes or similar. I haven't seen kids that small during the evening. Perhaps it is too late for that young kids when we come around.
Send them an email or phone them. Their staff is very helpful. Alternatively, I can ask on Friday, and will let you know...

Hi Zozo,
normally, you need to book an instructor several days in advance. I tried once on such a short notice and wasn't able to.
There are others that are interested in teaming up for instructions (beginner's course); here is the link: http://www.englishforum.ch/sports-fi...ers-basel.html
Cheers!

Please note that Kletterhalle closes early over the Easter Period so we are not having an event this Friday
