Hi everybody.

We are going for an easy day out in Alsace, France. You will need a car / ride for this trip and a navigator. Please specify in the RSVP if you have a car / need a ride / have a ride. I will provide further directions and timings as we get closer to this event. I think it would be the best if we would meet at the parking space at the SBB Bahnhof and go together.

UPDATE: Let's meet at the parking place by Media Markt (SBB Bahnhof) around 9:45 so that we can hit the road at 10!

Where are we going?

We will start with a short tour in castle Haut-Koenigsbourg. This castle has spectacular view over the region, and on a (very) clear day you can see all the way to the Alps. This magnificent view was of course useful during the middle ages, but during the Thirty Years' War it was destroyed by the Swedes.
In the year 1900, while Alsace belonged to Germany, a German Emperor, William II of Hohenzollern, started the restoration of the castle. His goal was not only to rebuild the castle, but also to make it as a museum of the Middle Ages.
Entrance fee: 8 € - if we reach more than 20 people, then 6 €



After that we are going to the Monkey Mountain!
And that is fun children. It’s a park where more than 280 monkeys are living in total freedom in 24 ha of forest and meadow. You can get popcorn from the staff to feed them from your hand and you will learn about the monkey’s social behavior.
Entrance fee: 8.50 € - for a group: 6.50 €




We will then end in a tiny little town called Riquewihr (pronounced like Reykjavík).
If you like Colmar, you are going to love Riquewihr. We will wander around, grab a beer, eat some traditional Flammeküeche and enjoy ourselves. I could eventually arrange wine tasting if there is interest for that.



Can you think of a better way to spend your Sunday? I certainly can’t!

  • Belgianmum + 1 guest - OK we're in. + Begga and JustRose . Possible place for one smallish behind.
  • Seb_sheppard - I would love to come, but have no car, so will need a lift please. If will exchange a lift for a sample of organic olive oil from my Spanish farm (have limited supply unfortunately).
  • zuzuni + 1 guest - will be riding with Angela!!
  • Begga + 1 guest - both riding with Belgianmum
  • saharanz + 2 guests - we're riding with TJ45
  • ThomasSSS - Yes, especially if I can find a ride...
  • TJ45 + 1 guest - Saharanz and co are riding with us.
RSVP'd Maybe: 12 (9 members and 3 guests)
  • ullainga + 1 guest - quite possibly, schedule permitting. Unless anybody is terribly afraid of dogs, we'd bring the puppies as well. 3 places in the car available too.
  • Sagar_KD - Might have friends from overseas that weekend.
  • JLF + 1 guest - Would love to come along. We will have to decide a little closer to the date though... :-)

  • sezdee - oops, just realised I don't think i'm here that weekend :(
  • Aryans - There are 2 events for Alsace(one in April and other in May) and I am still not sure when to go. I will sign as RSVP now.
  • tkn - If I am in Switzerland. Thanks Meeyat for offering the ride!
  • MusicChick - Sounds lovely, I have a school fieldtrip sometime around those days, so cannot confirm yet.
  • Fidgety + 1 guest - Me and my 4 year old daughter. Have space one possibly 2 spaces in the car. Coming from French side near Basel, want to see the weather first.

  • LiquidPaper - Sorry, a commitment came up - maybe next time!

  • Nil - Sorry, still not feeling enough fit to do a whole day out! Hope you all have a great time!
  • Flamelily - It is a lovely idea but we will be busy preparing our move. Hopefully next time!

and a good thing you bumped it! wah! that's my birthday weekend and i was just informed by my boys that i am being surprised and have to free up those two days.

happy to have my surprise but looking forward to hearing about the trip and planning the same another weekend- have a great time and kiss the monkeys for me!

Best remind mirfield to book a mobility car for us and the Mirsky's.

EDIT: who put "munchkin is a monkey" as a tag? I hope it doesn't refer to mini mimi who doesn't resemble a monkey in the slightest.....

Yep. I was a bit sceptical about this long term planning, but I guess this was a good test on how swissified EFers have become. Still long way to go.
