Curry Time anyone?

Some of us Baslers fancy our monthly curry restaurant fix. So for the May 2011 curry fix, may I propose an old favourite:

Easy to Walk/Cycle to or get the tram no. 3 or bus no. 30

Mandir (http://www.mandirbasel.com/English/Home.aspx)

Tel.: +41 (0)61 261 99 93
info@mandirbasel.com
info@mandir.ch

The limit for this month is 25 so, please only sign up as yes if you plan to come definitely. No shows will be noted down.

Even better, no Eurovision Iceland wailing! They should stick to whaling.

No worries. I forgive you for this comment. If I were English, I would also be insecure after hearing England's contribution.

Thanks for arranging; great company and (shock, horror!) a really excellent curry.

Re: Basel Curry - May 2011

Yep, the food was excellent, wasn't it!

Everything went very smoothly (except maybe Just_Rose's curry number which the restaurant guys managed to confuse thoroughly )

Onwards to the next one!

Sagar_KD, a big thanks from me, too!

A smaller group this time, but for that very reason more enjoyable.

Re: Basel Curry - May 2011

Yeah, just the two issues. Rose was originally presented with a lamb version of the chicken curry the ordered (the chef's way of saying 'eat lamb, it has flavour, you crazy woman!) but they swapped it out very quickly. And also one guy (know is real name but not his forum name, and don't want to use it here in case he's all shy) didn't get his starter. They presented the wrong one, took it away, and never came back.

No arguments about the bill and the owner is friendly.

Mandir did me proud. I ordered a hot Kerala syle curry, asked for it extra hot (to ensure they didn't think I was Swiss or something) and it was spot on.

Also, as resident says, it was good to be in a smaller crowd; we could all talk with each other without feeling guilty for ignoring another table of 20 opposite us ;)

Re: Basel Curry - May 2011

ditto to what Adrian says, however i ordered lamb and they brought chicken. But really it was no issue at all as they were quite fast to bring the correct dish and there was no hassle. The food was probably the best curry i have had in Basel as it was actually hott! Hott enough that i actually needed another glass of wine So thumbs up to Sagar for organizing and to the curry attendees who made it an enjoyable evening. See you all next month! (or maybe sooner at the monkey park)

Dead shy me, I must have shut up for all of two minutes all night

I've had a run of bad luck recently in the food ordering stakes in Switzerland - I've told the waiter what I want, and then the chef has cooked me some other dish, vaguely themed around my order for billing purposes. I'm not a fussy eater though, so the unpredictability just adds to the 'experience'.

Didn't spoil the night though, the company and the rest of the food more than made up for it. I'd happily go back!

Re: Basel Curry - May 2011

Hi Quark - and as a kind of compensation to the mistake, they didn't try to charge you for the starter so at least there was no bill-paying argument!
