AS MOVED FROM 14TH MAY...

I'm planning a out-of-left-field ride for this Saturday, taking in views of Lake Constance, Rheinthal, and Säntis. It will start at Romanshorn and end at Rapperswill. The ride will be about 6 hours, 130-140km and ca. 2000m total climbing, depending on any variations we decide on.

Why this way? Well,apart from the views, good roads and low traffic, you will be challenged by a few bursts of some tough grades, mainly in the first 2 hours. After that it will be more normal. But if you can't manage the occasional 20%,then you might want to avoid this :-) It is however at sociable pace ride, which means small breaks to let people catch up/recover, as well as a stop or two along the way for coffee/drinks/food.

We'll starting at St.Gallen, so I recommend bringing modular clothing (arm warmers at the very least) just in case it is a chilly start. We can finish at Rapperswil which gives easy connections back to Zürich or places either side of the lake.

Meeting point is HB latest 9am, and take the 09:16 EC train to St.Gallen. This train will be full in cattle class, so I advise being there no later than 9am. Or if you are coming from another direction, meet at the St.Gallen HB on Platform 1 near the ticket office at 10:20

Your preparation, equipment, clothing, accommodation, food, insurance, and any other costs / requirements are all up to you arrange. Anyone not able to ride competently or safely will be politely declined participation as part of the group.

SMALL PRINT FOR THIS RIDE: Riding a bicycle anywhere, particularly in Swiss Alps, can result in death, serious injury, or severe enjoyment, depending on how you ride. Make sure your bike and equipment is working and correctly adjusted. You are expected to ride safely and respectfully, and follow basic group riding etiquette. THIS RIDE IS NOT A RACE. This event is not a ride around the block. The distance, terrain and minimum tempo require a high level of fitness and competence, so don't let your fantasies get confused with your abilities. The group will wait up for slower riders, within reason of course. Be careful on downhills and corners, as road conditions can be deceptive and traffic such as trucks, buses and wide agricultural vehicles use these roads. If you are not sure, go out and try. Thursday Night Rides are a good start ;-)

Conditions in the mountains are subject to sudden and extreme fluctuations, such as temperature drops, high winds, rain, hail, snow, electrical storms and jaw-dropping scenery. Ensure you carry at least a long-armed windproof jacket in case of emergencies.
