City/Town: Basel
Event Type: Dinner
Meeting Point: Restaurant Mandir, Spalenvorstadt 9, Bas

Well there you have it – E for `Espana` was a good choice and it was worth it just for those delicious starters.

Forging on from those sumptuous Tapas and we find ourselves in the land of `F` . . . and it would be both rude and unwise not to choose FRANCE!
Except that is was unwise to chose France, because every restaurant that I booked, wanted every person in our group to have the SAME choice!!
It seems that they have a problem dealing with groups and so as it is now last minute . . I have decided to book somewhere in Basel where they don`t have a problem . . . Indian . . . .mmmmmm

This month’s event is therefore a special one for TWO reasons:

As a one off and in response to a request/suggestion from a couple of EF members, I decided to make this an `away`match.

2. This month’s event also announces the start of the A-Z of Dining in Basel, which I am sure will be every bit as successful as the Zurich event. The Basel organizer of this regular monthly event will be Miss Friis, who has kindly suggested the idea and offered to run it.

So let’s make it a nice one-off joint event and help get the Basel group going.

To enable Zurich based people to join; I have switched from the regular Friday evening, to a Saturday (25th June).

I have reserved a table for 14 people starting at 19:30
Please see the link for details of the restaurant www.mandirbasel.com/English/Home.aspx

I will be travelling by train from Zurich and so anyone else coming could co-ordinate with that if desired.
Let`s get booking chaps . . .

Oh, one final thing . . . next month`s event will be back in Zürich as usual for us . . the Basel group will organise their event . . . over there.

Re: The A-Z of dining in Zürich (Basel)

Many years ago, when I was new to Switzerland and lived in Basel, I went to the Mandir. Very nice restaurant run by a charming young man. He's probably quite old now.

We going clubbing after? My dancing skills..........people stand and stare, I'm that good.

Basher, I hope to make it. Will post yay or nay tomorrow.

Of course I do - Mandir is our "local" take-away...

It's just that Basher didn't know Basel restaurants, so next time all you Zurichers need some decent food in a nice city, you'll have more options...

Re: The A-Z of dining in Zürich (Basel)

Thanks for that info - you are right . . I don`t know Basel at all and it`s hard finding a restaurant that is suitable . . when, in Zürich, I normally go in and see them first (as we are normally a large group).
I never realised that there were so FEW EFers in Basel . . . we could have saved our money and eaten in Zürich!

True. EF tends to be Zurich-centric.

And glocals is, despite it's attempts at broadening its base, still Geneva-centric.

And Basel; well...

Re: The A-Z of dining in Zürich (Basel)

There are loads of us! It's just that ... being so near to France and Germany many people are often away/busy at the weekends out doing stuff, especially when the weather's good.

Our monthly curries, held on a weekday, (coincidentally also held at Mandir recently) sometimes attract over 30 people.

I'm on an "all-day" cycling trip in the Alsace on Saturday (EF event) but if I get back early enough and don't just pig out on food as soon as I enter my kitchen I'll come along.

I don't like many restaurants here in Switzerland at all, but Mandir has always been excellent.
