Linthebene/Congo/Glarnerland social

Living away from the bright lights and cultural attractions of the great metropolis of Zurich (not to mention the Florence-on-the-Rhine that is Basel), it is easy to lose touch with one's fellow colonists imperialists exiles, the thought of an hour's train journey followed by a slow yomp up a muddy mountainside being enough to dissuade one from going for a drink, a coffee or a curry with our more urbane friends in the north.

Sure, our city-dwelling chums occasionally throw us a biscuit in the shape of an afternoon in Rapperswil, but these, while wonderful, are few and far between, and leave those of us who live in the erstwhile canton of Linth hungry for more contact with creatures which aren't cows.

It is with this in mind that I thought it might be nice to organise an event down here, at the bottom end of the Zurichsee, at a place convenient for all our members who live in Ausserschwyz, southern St Gallen, Glarus and even, should they condescend to join us, the southern end of canton Zurich.

The question is: where? Somewhere on the main line would be the best for all, which rules out Schindellegi, Wollerau, most of the canton of Glarus, those weird villages between Rapperswil and Ziegelbruecke, and, if it's an evening event, the town of Rapperswil itself.

My suggestions would be:

Pfaffikon SZ: the town centre is dire, but there are a couple of reasonable (if expensive) places down by the lakeside.

Lachen: very convenient, and very nice, but I haven't a clue what there is there. Local advice would be appreciated.

Reichenburg: there's a very nice restaurant by the canal, but it's a bit of a walk from the station (the restaurant is actually in Benken).

Weesen: a bit of a faff to get to, but some lovely restaurants on the waterside.

Do any other Linthners have any better suggestions?

Does the right to attend enclose the entire former, somewhat ephemeral, Canton Linth?

Yes!

Residents of neighbouring (and distant) cantons are also welcome, too.

I voted LACHEN and meant the airport, sorry AIRFIELD and had Saturday aor Sunday lunchtime in mind. It is such a nice place, offers nice small meals and good wines.

I don't really care where you have it, as long as the SBB etc. can get me there.
