"Proper" Sunday Roast--Gauging Interest

Hey all-
I have had many people ask me whether I know of a place that does a "proper" Sunday Roast. Well, I think I have found a place willing to do an all-you-can-eat Sunday roast buffet with one meat, roast potatoes, and all the fixings. If it is successful, this could become a once a month thing with different meats.

This thread is doing exactly what the title says: gauging interest. Please vote in the poll but also reply in the thread with your comments about the idea.

1. The first event would happen on one of the first two Sundays in September (in the Zurich-area) and it would feature pork. The time would be from about 4pm-12midnight.
2. I need at least 30 people to make it reasonably priced and worthwhile to the vendor (and for the record, I am making *nothing* off this). I am just providing the "organization" so that it happens.
3. The cost would be between 45 and 60 CHFs, depending on the confirmed number of people. And again, it is all-you-can-eat.
4. On that note, I would have to collect a deposit of 50CHFs about 10 days in advance of the event to assure that we have the numbers. This could prove to be a problem, but it is part of the deal. Then if we have the numbers, up to five days in advance, I can still collect money (and increase the numbers). The deposit guarantees you show up and makes sure we have enough food for everyone.
5. Pool will be included in the price. So if you like to play, you have the tables available to you for the night.

Please vote in the poll!

You are taken to the poll after the thread is posted... thus, there is a bit of a delay. Patience my dear, patience. (it is there now).

Beef instead of pork would suit me better. I'm good either Sunday. It would be great if there was a reduced price for vegetarians as in most buffets.

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast--Gauging Interest

I've never been a fan of the typical British sunday lunch, especially pork or beef, but the one thing that makes them tolerable for me are Yorkshire Puddings, but sadly no mention of them

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast--Gauging Interest

Would be very interested if the lunch is at a easy to get place with bus/train. I don't own a car, so I'd have to take the public transportation... And the last train back home is around 23h45

There will be yorkies. How could there not be. Also potatoes roasted in dripping. And if there aren't I will close my eyes and think of England.

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast--Gauging Interest

Just a general comment based on some previous event plans.

Please would everyone who is planning to go make sure that they pay their deposits/final amounts promptly.

Events in the past have been cancelled or organisers have been left out of pocket because of a small minority who have not paid up, or dropped out without warning.

This is a great event idea. Hope it goes well.

Yes, it is in Zurich...and of course there is beer. It is *not* included in the price of the buffet though.

Sorry, no reduced price for vegetarians. We are not even going to go there on the first shot at this. If it is very successful, and it is something that can be done every month, then this would be a thing to consider for the future...

Very accessible by public transportation.

I just confirmed with the owner. Regardless of the meat selection for the first go, he will do yorkies. And of course, it will be proper roast potatoes (which is one of the many reasons why the planning is necessary).

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast--Gauging Interest

Just thinking that the 1st weekend of Sept would be best as not to be too close to Grumpy's last cheese day.

Grand idea !! I've got 2 here that would make the trip for it !!
Bit shy to say much though as I've had to cancel 3 times at the last minute

Price is reasonable and you're quite right to collect 10 days before.

I'd love to, both for the food and the company

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast--Gauging Interest

Can you give us any more info on the culinary skills of the "vendor" in question? Is it known for good food? Is it a pool hall that will chuck a few pork roasts in the oven?

For those in Genf who would like sunday roast but can`t get to Zurich, you can get sunday roast at the Clubhouse behind the Kempinski.
Great idea JLF

The place is a bar/restaurant first and a pool hall second. I have yet to hear someone complain about the food, and in fact, most rave about how good it is.
The pool is just an added bonus that the owner is going to throw in b/c he knows how much I like pool and because of how many people I know who would practically come just for the pool. It is not costing extra for the pool. The price you see there is the cost to actually put on a proper Sunday roast.

And for those who answered "beef is better than pork" in the poll, can you please comment in the thread if you will *only* come if it is beef or if it is just a personal preference for you to have beef? Thanks...
