JLF
Forum Veteran

11.09.2011 15:00 to 23:59
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Adliswil (Zurich)
Event Type: Dinner
Meeting Point: Pot Belly's, Soodring 21

PLEASE READ THIS POST. PLEASE READ THIS POST. UPDATE!!!

Come one, come all...The proper Sunday roast is on. And the pool is free.

The doors will open at 15.00 for us and the buffet will start between 15.30 and 16.00. It will be all-you-can-eat and last until 20.00. The bar will stay open (still with free pool) until around 00.00.

Menu (there will be, at a minimum, the following):
Roast Beef and (UPDATE) Roast Pork
Roast Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
3 kinds of Veggies
Yorkshire Puddings
Gravy
Dessert: Apple Pie and Cream
Drinks are *not* included

Price: Between 45-60CHF (depending on the number of confirmed attendees). 50CHF deposit per person to me by SEPT 1 to guarantee your spot(s). If we have enough attendees at that time, I can still collect money and take more names until 5 days before the event.

Kids 12 and under: 25CHF---the venue also has a little play area for them

Location:
Pot Belly's
Soodring 21
8134 Adliswil
http://www.potbellys.ch/

It is a short 14 minute ride on the S4 from the Zurich main station (you do need a zone extension). Trains run every 20 minutes off track 1, and Pot Belly's is literally above the Sood-Oberleimbach stop. There is some parking available nearby as well.

Any questions, let me know.

Please read the thread for updates...so far there has been three or four!

Also, please RSVP separating your adult guests from your children guests. Thanks in advance.

I'm bringing 4 guests. Only need 3 more people and we reached the 25 quota
Well, keep in mind, some of those guests are actually children... so they don't count. But I have some good news--see below.

Quote:

I arrive in Switzerland on Sunday 28th and will be able to pay you when I get there, is that OK?...Will be in touch when I get there.
This is not a problem. Just pm me when you get into town. If we have enough people without you that are paid up by the 1st, then you will have until the 6th to get me your money and you can still be on the list. If we don't and I need your money straight away, then I can let you know that then. Like I said, no worries!

And a BIG update:

Talked to the owner this evening. He is going to do both beef and pork on the buffet!! But because the cuts are quite different here, there will not be crackling (just as a warning).

And he asked me if he could invite other English/American/Australian/Canadian/Irish/Scottish/etc people (in other words, other English-speakers) perhaps not affiliated with the EF, and I said of course...the more the merrier as long as there is enough food for everyone, right?!

So I would say at this point, if I get all the money for our list of 'yes' RSVP's, we are about 98% sure this will happen. More people is just a bonus.

Please check back for more updates as we get closer to the event. THANKS in advance!

Re: All-You-Can-Eat Sunday Roast

A separate review/thread of the venue's Sunday brunch (which they do regularly). Particularly applicable since they are testing out things that we will be served at the Roast.

Paid as of today (21.Aug.2011):
Mirfield + Mimi1981 (will owe for your daughter on the day of the event)
Federica
Ashishshah + 1

Again, all money must be paid by 2.September. Thanks in advance!

Re: All-You-Can-Eat Sunday Roast

Beginning of the week bump...

All my yes RSVPs (and any maybes that have changed to a yes) must have money to me by 2.Sept (twelve days to go). I have to work very late on the 1st, so that is why everyone now has until the 2nd.

Again, I have to have a minimum of the number of 'yes's' right now, and preferably a few more, paid by this date or else the event will not go on...

Please pm me if none of the ways to get me the money are good for you. Thanks.

Re: All-You-Can-Eat Sunday Roast

As I was just reminded that 2.Sept is the big 1st Annual Birthday Celebration for the Viadukt, I will wait until the end of business (23.00) on that Friday to collect the money. I should be there for at least part of the celebration if you feel more comfortable giving the money directly to me (in person).

Anyway, just trying to make sure it happens...for all my fellow foodies out there.

Re: All-You-Can-Eat Sunday Roast

I just want to be *crystal clear* here:

Your deposit is NON-refundable after Sept 2 (except in extreme cases, which will be dealt with in private and on a case-by-case basis).

Assuming the numbers that make this event happen, food is going to be made for the number of people I collect money from by Sept 2. Thus, the venue will buy food for you with the deposit you give me whether you decide to actually come or not. Once they order the food, your deposit is gone. full stop.

Please do not "confirm" attendance by paying your deposit if you are not certain you can make it.

Not rocket science, people.

Re: All-You-Can-Eat Sunday Roast

FINAL WEEK TO PAY YOUR DEPOSIT!!!
Is that clear enough?

Paid as of today (29.Aug.2011):
Mirfield + Mimi1981 (will owe for your daughter on the day of the event)
Federica
Ashishshah + 1
Helm + 4
gourmet

So that means that there are lots and lots that still need to pay.

YOU HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY, SEPT 2 AT 23.00.

Please, please, please let me know if this doesn't work for you and we need to make other arrangements. Also, if you are a MAYBE, please make your decision and indicate it here. If you are a YES and have decided NO, please indicate it here. IT DOES ACTUALLY MATTER FOR THIS EVENT!

For my MAYBE's that are not coming for the food but are coming afterward to play pool/drink/whatever, please STAY a MAYBE but change your response to "not coming for the roast but coming after 20.00" (or something similar).

I will let you know on Saturday, Sept 3 if I have collected enough money for this to be a 'go'. If not, I will then contact you individually to return your deposits.

I vote mirfield pays for any difference if there aren't enough people. We'll certainly eat enough between us three

No worries about the $$ for mini-mimi for now. Because you had already sent yours and mirfield's money, it wasn't worth sending something again. You can pay me/the owner for her on the day of the event.

As a general note, all adults must be paid in advance. On the day of the event, I am going to have some indicator/check list for attendees. I will be at the door greeting everyone and crossing names off the list, etc...

Plus one.

I am already hungry, and very much looking forward to this.

I might even try to play pool later

12 Maybes still need to make a decision...

The other three are just coming for the "after-party" if there is such a thing. Most likely, at that point, I will be in major food coma.
