City/Town: Engelberg/Graustock
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: Zurich HB

This Sunday, I propose a trip to the GRAUSTOCK, near Engelberg, to do the GRAUSTOCK Klettersteig
It is graded at KS4-C and the suggested duration is 5 hours.
I will travel by train from the Zurich HB to Engelberg via Luzern
The train leaves from Zurich HB:
07:04 - arriving in Kuzern at 07:49
Arrival in Engelberg is 08:53
THEREFORE THE MEETING TIME IS 06:50 AT THE HB MEETING POINT, IN THE MAIN HALL.

Then we take the Gondelbahn up to Trüebsee (1796m), followed by the Sessellift up to Jochpass (2207m) . . or we could hike!

As I stated in an earlier post for the Klettersteig group - I am not a leader with any qualifications - I am just organising the trip.
You will need :
Walking shoes or boots
Klettersteig kit including harness
Helmet
gloves (optional)
Please be aware that this trip is not suitable for total beginners (in my opinion).

I cannot stop you going without the neccessary gear - but for sure you will not be coming with us if you turn up without it - sorry about that.

Please respond below if you wish to join and then either post any questions, if any, or PM me.
If anyone joins we can co-ordinate the meeting time and I will give you my mobile number.
Finally, it goes without saying that the trip is based on weather permitting.

  • ThomasSSS - Sigh. I'm hiking in Ticino again this weekend. Have fun!
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Re: Klettersteig group

I will definitely be going and see how the weather pans out.
If anyone fancies coming I will wait at Zurich hb meeting point under the clock . . . . . until 6 - 55am and then get on the train.
Look out for my red rucksack . . . I will be with it.

It was a good trip - but due to the weather the Klettersteig was a no-no.
When I arrived at Engelberg it was raining quite hard and so I took the cable car up to Traubsee and then hiked up to the Jochpass. Form here the Klettersteig starts and by this time it had actually stopped raining. The visibility improved from about 50 metres up to over 10km!
Having said that, it was still very cloudy and I knew it was only a matter of time before it closed in again.
I checked out the start of the klettersteig and having my kit with me, I must confess to being tempted. However, the notice stating `This Klettersteig is extremely dangerous when wet` jolted me back to reality - that and the fact that I was alone.
That does not bother me normally but hell . . . I may LOOK stupid . . .
So I hiked on up towards the ridge east of Titlis and got to just under 3000m when there were signs of a new weather front coming in and so I decided to call it a day.
Actually it held out until I was 400m from Engelberg station . . . when the mother of all rainstorms broke - Lucky . . . or what?
Unfortunately I am away on holiday from friday but will organise another(?) klettersteig trip for the 27th or 28th August. Sorry I can`t join any in the meantime - we`ve been dogged with the bad weather.
