City/Town: Zurich
Event Type: Other
Meeting Point: Address by PM

Right, so apparently we are having an evening playing board games next Wednesday (don't blame me for the short notice or the fact that it is a weekday, please, it wasn't my idea!).

No idea what we will play. Possibly Siedler/Settlers, but feel free to make suggestions or bring along anything you have.

There will be nibbles and soft drinks/wine, but again, please feel free to bring anything along that you fancy.

Please do RSVP if you plan to come, and I will send you the address by PM.
Edit: BTW, if it helps you decide, the address is about 5 minutes from Zurich HB by S10.

(Note: the "end" time is not fixed!)
RSVP'd Yes: 7 (5 members and 2 guests)
  • sygirl101
  • hope0407 + 1 guest - I love game nights! Have you done this before, if so how many people are you expecting (so I can know which type of games to bring along)?
  • Chemmie - I'm in for settlers!
  • jetset - sounds fun! i could bring along Bohnanza. i could also bring along bananagrams.
  • araqyl + 1 guest - Sounds great! Will bring a few small games in my bag, in case we need several running ... anyone up for Cluedo?
RSVP'd No: 4
  • Ouchboy - damn it, I'm not in CH
  • Phil_MCR - hopefully another time...
  • francesco_ud - DAMMIT. I will probably be free only past 21:30. Guess to late to join. hopefully another time...
  • KeinFranzösisch - I would love to, as I really enjoy board/card games, but I couldn't possibly make it to Züri in the middle of the week.
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

We also Carcassone and Puerto Rico, I personally like the train games, according to husband Settlers is not really a boardgame accodring to purists)..no comment from my side
I'm definitely not a purist or an expert on the topic, not being familiar with 'train games' either.

But my logic would still consider Settlers a board game, albeit with a original board per gaming event. Obviously this sets it apart from most board games, but whatever :P

you missed yahtzee and Kolejka from your list
I played yahtzee and remember liking it, vague memories, 17yrs ago...

I probably prefer chess the most, makes me a board game dinosaurus, I guess, hahaha. Dominoes, triominoes, tangoes...hot FLA evenings with ice tea and rotten oranges smell, moss. Ooooh.

Re: Games evening

Sorry for not making it. Stayed out next to the lake a bit too long, because it was finally such a nice day. Lost track of time, and since it would take me over an hour to get to zürich it didn't happen. Yeah, the outdoor park idea would be so great, but it's so hard to plan. What did you end up playing? I'm sure it was a great evening, but yes, you are right about it being a bummer to have to get up for school/work the next day. Looking forward to the next one and definitely coming this time =) !

Re: Games evening

Thanks to ARandomUsername for setting up and hosting. Very amusing night, fun game (although tough to learn a good strategy against some veterans). Made for some hiliarious comments and lines though!

A++++ Would play again.

what game did you play?
We ended up playing Illuminati. Seemed complicated at first, but got the hang of the rules fairly quickly apart from a couple which I needed to be reminded of.

Strategy was kinda hard to set up (obviously mine failed miserably), but will have to play a few more times to get the hang of it.

Glad you enjoyed It's a shame I had to block others from coming due to numbers and then people who had signed up weren't able to make it.

The winner always wins and it always happens kind of unexpectedly.

Next time I'll RSVP quicker! Really, has no one here played Bohnanza?! Or do you just think it's lame ? Would love to play it again soon! Kids have gotten in the way of my game playing opportunities!

I used to play games like Bohnanza and Settlers

Now I play Hi Ho Cherry O

Bohnanza looks interesting. Do you have a copy? I think you might like Kuh Handel as well which we have. Maybe we should have an evening of farming related games

Themed game nights is a funny idea actually! Games with dice, games with trading, games with drawing, games with decks of cards, etc...

Yes, I do have a copy!

Re: Games evening

Hi everyone, I arrived yesterday to Zurich, and I must say that I'm really interested in these kind of events, since I like a lot Boardgames.

Is there any boargame shop or bar in Zurich that has the option to eat/drink something and play there? In Barcelona we had several locals where we could meet and play, even test games...

I own in english or non dependant language: Puerto Rico, Blue Moon City, Lord of the Rings confrontation, Hive and Citadels. I would like to meet you people...

Any of you plays RPG games (D&D, Chtulu,etc...) or knows someone who plays?

That sounds like a great idea, but I don't know of anywhere, sadly.

There will be another evening, sometime. My wife and I just need to get our butts into gear and organise it

We haven't, but that is (from my side) more because we don't have any. I played lots of those, back in the prehistoric times - (A)D&D, Cthulhu, Paranoia, and so on. Good times If you're willing to host then why not start a thread

Re: Games evening

Ok, we will have our flat in October, when we are settled up I'll start some campaign if I haven't found open partys for roleplaying.
Check these on Facebook, I've been in the boardgames club for 2 wednesday and had great time there.

Spieletreff Zürich Wiedikon , boardgames every wednesday, most of them speak also english. Any interested write them in Facebook, and we can organize some games there.

Rollenspiel Zürich , roleplaying games. I've just contacted them...

Might be interested in that. Well done that man/woman/small furry creature from Alpha Centauri!

Anyway, it seems like it's nearly time for another one. I'll speak to Mrs. Username this evening and see if we can't get something sorted out

Work has taken over my life and I'm not on the forums much, but I'm subscribed to this thread and would love to come to the next games evening if possible!
