WOW this seems an awsome idea. I used to love playing board games but don't know those two. Are they German? |

Settlers of Catan (Siedler von Catan) is a game from a german, but I learned it years ago in english. It's best defined as a mix between risk and monopoly, but a million times better than both .
Initially a lot of rules to learn, but after 5 mins playing they all make sense and it's very simple and fair regardless of experience.
Most likely who ever has it here, has the instructions and game in german, but it's easily played by non-german speakers as long as you have at least one person who can read german or who know all the rules in english.

@Hope: please have a look at the other thread linked in the event description. Yes, we've done this before, just not with EFers. There will be at least five others there, but until they (the non-EFers) also reply I have no firm idea of numbers. Anything playable by 3+ is probably good.

| | Re: Games evening Okay, I should probably actually close this for space reasons.
But I can't find a way to do so Those that are already signed up are in, anyone else is free to come along but might have to stand up (or we make it the first ever "bring a chair" party ). For next time I'll see if I can't get something organised so that everyone can sign up in one place!

then it's all fun | | | | | We actually could do it in the communal gardens (play the games, you smutty boy!) snice there are tables and benches there. If the weather is good then that's a possibility, but with this summer... The current forecast for Wednesday is 14° in the aftenoon and I guess it will be cooler still in the evening.

If you've got a comfy floor area, some of us could sit on the floor playing other games if necessary ... how many can play Settlers at once?

The base game is only 4, but with the expansion, I think you can have up to 6.
For those who are new to the game, sometimes playing in teams works too, but you have to get along with your teammate on decisions and strategy

Are we going to do this outside? If no, are there any cats in the home? If there are cats, I'll have to bow out since my system would go into overdrive. I've developed seasonal allergies or hayfever in Switzerland. Argh.
Hoping it works out. I love games and it's been a long time since I had the chance to play Settlers.

Basel is definitely doable for another night. The Zurich connections are good enough---as long as it doesn't go too late

(at least in the settlers sold in the US)

Okay, there seem to be a lot of people want to come and play. More than we can handle to be honest, given that my wife also has some guests coming. Those of you (sygirl101, hope0407+guest, and Chemmie) who RSVP'd first are in and I've sent a PM with our address.
Sorry, the rest of you! It's nothing personal, I promise Judging by the numbers I think we will simply have to do an EF-only evening sometime soon (either a Friday or Saturday evening so people can get home and not have to worry about work the next day).
I should say, the following games are available:
Civilization (probably takes too long - does anyone have a spare month to play it?)
Lord of the Rings Risk (never played, no idea what it's like)
Acquire (invest in hotel chains, becme the richest player)
Settlers (should be available, I asked a friend that is coming to bring it along)
+ a few smaller games that can be played as "fillers"
