Re: A Taste of Vietnam - Lunch in Zurich

Problem is that the place is very full over lunch. Actually it's pretty much always quite full. For some reason. I am in.

Do you reserve a table?

Re: A Taste of Vietnam - Lunch in Zurich

This is probably the best Vietnamese place in Switzerland. Compared to my previous experience..I'll rate it a 6.5 on LIB's Pho scale.

Re: A Taste of Vietnam - Lunch in Zurich

@Treverus: I'll close the subscriptions on thursday morning and try to reserve a table with the number of people we have. I say I'll try because, for some reason, some people tried before but the restaurant would not take reservations! Go figure...

If they don't take reservations, I'll go a little earlier and try to secure a spot.

@Coconut: that's why I booked it on a Friday, I remember...

Re: A Taste of Vietnam - Lunch in Zurich

Huh, I was there once, and I figured it was completely non-traditional on account of that they didn't even have fresh chilies to serve with pho…

I've been told by a half-Vietnamese here that the best place is the one up by the Friesenberg train stop. I don't remember the name.

Federica, dije una estrella, no LA estrella jajajaja. Hay varios Efers que quiero conocer.
Thanks for listening to my sugestion, its wonderful to know i will enjoy my food. By the way, the other day I ate at a chinese place in Banhof Altstetten, its also a take away or you pay 2chf extra for having a table. The cheapest dish starts at 9chf and includes the drink (11chf if you eat there) we could make a taste for china next time?, what d'yathink?

Suggestion taken, thanks! I love these improv lunches and I love trying different foods/places, plus I get to meet new people and see friends. Good all around

After this one, I will resume the improv lunch scheduling when I am back in the country. Ciao!

A big thanks to all the friends who came.

I had the pho with beef and really liked it, even on such a hot day

Re: A Taste of Vietnam - Lunch in Zurich

This is the Korean place I was talking about:
http://www.akaraka.ch/

Looks like they stopped making Bibimbap lunches. The buffet is good, but only on Mondays and Wednesdays... and the bento thingis they offer on the other days is a bit on the high side IMHO (the bibimbap was under 20).

Anyone up to go for the buffet next week? Rather monday or wednesday?

Interesting. Went there last September and was so under impressed that decided it wasn't for me. I took a standard beef pho; they forgot to bring the side plate with the interesting spices (mint, basil, beansprouts, other things I do not recognise). So it was quite bland (I used to eat Pho quite regularly in Paris before moving here).

So perhaps I should try again. Also I think they do a lunch buffet?

I can assure you that they did bring the side dish. But honestly: Why didn't you ask for it?

The place is usually quite full, so the staff is quite stressed. But the place isn't so full because the food is so bad...

I don't think they do a buffet as in "all you can eat". They have a buffet from which you can order a plate or take away... but that's just what's in the menu anyway.

If you ever fancy an evening meal there rather than lunch, please do let me know. It's really easy for me to get to...

I found the food to be okay (I'm no expert on the authenticity of it, but it's tasty) although the service is a bit patchy (slow and a bit "inaccurate", not rude, the people are actually really nice) and I certainly wouldn't say it was a plush place, but it's decent enough. Sitting outside can be a bit noisy - the S-Bahn line (S10) and Friesenberg station is right next door.

P.S. Should say, on google maps it is known as Restaurant Kafi Kaktus for some reason.
