Dunno 'bout spanner in t'werks - I'm up the crack without a piddle, if there's no local (Horner) shuttle buses. I always used them from out here in t'bhunies. I was palnning on kipping at my old house - now I may have to take the train back to my new one, if I can't cadge a lift off someone.
Honestly I miss one year and everything's gone titsup - and the booklet wasn't in the post .... but I'll be back tomorrow, so hopefully it'll be there then.
Found a flyer in my waste paper, that just states: "Free Shuttle Bus" - which must be the Glasgow bus - but no mention of any other routes, so it must be TPF from the BH, and nothing from the villages on the southern side.

This sounds good, will try and make it for Sunday. Not been to a Highland Games since I was a lad.

After reading the bus schedule from Fribourg, the following buses should be available to go to St-Ursen:
- on saturday: 7.02 ( a bit early...) 8.32, 10.02, 12.02, 15.02, 17.02, 18.32, 19.45
- on sunday: 8.32, 10.02, 12.02, 15.02, 17.02, 18.32, 19.32, 19.45
It is the 10.02, 12.02 and eventually 15.02 which should interest us most, I'll check it out at the bus station later today.
Via Düdingen/Guin the train leaves Fribourg station twice per hour, at .15 and at .45, generally from gleis 3. This platform holds gleis 2 and 3, where from ZRH side and GVA side arrive.

Seems all the RSVP's have disappeared... maybe because of some editing... | Quote: | | | | | This sounds very nice!
Whcih day will be the best to be there? Saturday I will not be able to arrive until 5-6pm so I am considering Sunday.....
Any more details about the program? the website is not very clear for me
Thanks! | | | | | Saturday is busy and it goes on until very late at night with lots of of live music but Sunday they have the finals and prize giving and all of the pipe bands play and march together, which is pretty stirring! | This user would like to thank grumpygrapefruit for this useful post: | |

To all those in doubt about coming, I have to add that it was the first time I had attended the games last year, and it was a really great event. Nice people who are just wanting to have a good time.
It is also very odd in a Swiss setting, but that adds to the pleasure.

Is it easy to park there?
We'll be coming by car (from Neuchatel) on Sunday and I was just wondering if parking was going to be a bit of a nightmare.

Last year, I arrived rather late on Sunday and I had a 5 mn walk to th games.

I checked the TPF bus schedule
Fribourg > St.Ursen, some 13mn:
departure at backside underground TPF station:
Saturday: 7.02 / 8.32 / 10.02 / 12.02 / 15.02 / 17.02 / 18.32 / 19.45
Sunday: 8.32 / 10.02 / 12.02 / 15.02 / 16.32 / 18.02 / 19.32
St.Ursen (Struss) > Fribourg, some 20mn
Saturday: 6.37 / 8.07 / 9.37 / 11.37 / 13.07 / 16.37 / 18.07 / 19.17
Sunday: 8.07 / 9.37 / 11.37 / 13.07 / 16.07 / 16.37 / 19.07
Don't ask me why it takes 13 mn to go and 20 mn to come back...

Our attendance this year is looking more and more unlikely; kids are not allowed after a certain time and it all finishes on Sunday at 6, about the same time we'll be getting back from Jegenstorf probably.

the tpf bus seems a lot easier to me too.
when leaving the train in Fribourg, you will either go down on the long slope or by the steps. When going down on the slope, you'll turn left in the central corridor. When going down by the steps, you'll turn right in the central corridor. You'll see the bus schedule above the doors of the underground garage.
Your bus is n°127 FRIBOURG - PLAFFEIEN (via Rechthalten). The platform will be indicated.
Have a nice day!
Paul

I walked back from the games to Fribourg. Thankfully it is mainly down hill |
