City/Town: Zurich
Event Type: Dinner
Meeting Point: Da Michelangelo, Gertrudstrasse 37.

Greetings fellow diners . . . come and join us for a culinary journey through the alphabet.
The A-Z of dining is a concept whereby we visit a different restaurant in Zurich each month based on the letters of the alphabet - having started 2011 with A, we are just recovering from the slightly bizarre experience of H and have finally arrived in the safe waters of I.
I'm sorry to disappoint those of you expecting or hoping for INDIAN . . because I already had a plan for this month and . . . I like to stick to a plan.
Therefore we are obviously going ITALIAN and I have booked a table for 18 people at the restaurant 'da Michelangelo' at Gertrudstrasse 37, 8003. Zurich.
The table is booked for 8pm (as many people seem to find it hard to get there for 7-30).
See the web link for further details -
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...lo-Zurich.html
I have been to this restaurant recently and can only say that it was excellent.
So register below to reserve your place.
New EF members are particularly welcome!
RSVP'd Yes: 23 (14 members and 9 guests) RSVP'd Maybe: 1 (1 members and No guests)
  • mikro - If i won't be on my way to Oktoberfest...
RSVP'd No: 8
  • olygirl - Hi Basher! My mom will be town and my heart, soul and time will be devoted to her during her stay. Cu maybe late Oct or Nov?
  • basher - Aaaaaargh - bailing out of my own event - the ultimate sin :-(
  • Tumpe - Garr, can't come this time as my girlfriend lands at 9pm the same night and she wouldn't be impressed if I wasn't at the airport for her first visit!
  • HashBrown
  • BokerTov - Sorry B, going to Gimmelwald
  • iwork2travel - Sorry to Cancel but moving in to new flat.
  • Justsquirrel - Sorry, full of lurgy and not nice to know
  • mrbumby - Sorry for the change, yet again, but I just found out about a last minute work project that's going to take up my Friday night. If we're in town for the next one, we'll definitely come!
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Basher,

This restaurant is excellent, and one of my foodie boss' favorites (we've had more than one team lunch there).
Disappointed not to be there, mamma mia!!!

Viva l'Italia (Go Italy)

Actually there are no reviews of previous restuarants visited but you are the second person to ask me that within a week.
I just assumed that most of the restaurants were well known to most people . . . stupid old me.
So, I think I am going to try and review the restaurants from this year - it may be a good idea to do it as a sort of `A-Z of Dining end of year report` . . . yes, I can see it clearly now . . great idea . . .what I had.
Thanks Phil and Summerrain for the idea.

Re: The A-Z of Dining in Zurich

I like the "review" idea, because it can help other fellow diners

Of the ones I attended, my favorites so far, hands down, have been the Ethiopian place (Abyssinia) and of course Zeughauskeller.

At Michelangelo, I remember having a very tasty pizza with mozzarella di bufala

Re: The A-Z of Dining in Zurich

Well . . . shock horror, I am bailing out of my own event. Before you denounce me as a total cad . . I have to offer the excuse that I have finally found my own appt here in Zurich (well almost) and as most of my belongings are still in Berlin, I have to go up and be there when the removals people arrive.
There is just no other option other than that weekend.
But . . do not worry, the legendary Prof Taratonga has kindly offered to step in and host this month`s event.
Not content with hosting regular events (Comedy and Absinth) at his own appt and also giving up his own time every week, helping many of us to improve our German (German conversation group) - he had no hesitation when I rather `bashfully` asked for his help.
Prof . . you are a star man..
I will be back at the helm for next month`s letter J. . . . . mmmmm..
Don`t forget - there are still open places for this month`s event so especially for newcomers - it`s a good event to meet some new people - sign up and get yourself down there.

Re: The A-Z of Dining in Zurich

These sound like interesting events, J I hope would be for Japanese, preferably okonomiyaki rather than sushi, for those that don't know what okonomiyaki is, it is essentially Japanese pizza (translation is "as you like it"). The base is dough but with a twist, the main ingredient is shredded cabbage, honestly it is great!

Thank YOU Prof!
To all those who have said YES . . . please make sure that:
a) You do actually turn up!!!!
b) You do turn up on TIME. It is not courteous to make the rest of the group waiting before they even begin to order.

Don`t make me get angry.
Seriously though - enjoy the meal - you are in good hands - see you next month . . . which we are working on now.

Re: The A-Z of Dining in Zurich

Sorry I had to bolt like that. Hope the money was enough, if not just let me know who I might owe.

Food was good! The poor server was a tad overwhelmed, wasn't he. I think Spitzbube didn't get a single thing he ordered the first time.
