Hum.... yes I have one actually. Does he have the intention to open one forum like this in Spain. Because those we have here are boring, not much into it and it is mostly ghost towns. | | | | | Flights are cheap from Madrid for example
As are the mini offer tickets from Renfe ( Barcelona - Zurich "Pau Casals" ) for their TrenHotel Service.
As for the forum, I checked and was led to believe that there are no plans yet for Spain ( but who knows, things might change ). I notice they tend to open up in countries in Europe with high GDP and PPP

ah, very interesting, well maybe the main detractors are unwitting victims, pawns if you will, of a bigger conspiracy. Perhaps TheLocal is not the real enemy but is being scape goated by a greater more powerful insidious invisible force whose aim is to destroy the increasingly powerful expat soap box that is the English Forum. hmmmmm anyone smell svp meddling.
The old divide and conquer tactic never fails.....
I love a good conspiracy.
You think i might be onto something? Maybe more time should be spent checking the credentials of members and an intelligence wing could be set up to flush out spies... |

Unfortunately, the EF has been a bit crap just lately - and I've contributed to that crapness. Again, I apologise.

Aren´t you going to meet up Paul ?

| | | | | Immature and unnecessary. Kicking a guy who's had the balls to apologise is almost always wrong. Doing it in public is worse

If we all just agreed with everything, then no one would have read the T&Cs, no one would have copied the forum somewhere else to escape, no one would have deleted their account out of annoyance/spite/mimi.
We'd all be here and happy.
And bored.

| | Re: Drinks evening (with founder of The Local) | Quote: | | | | ... I've always believed that the EF should be inclusive... | | | | | It is inclusive and the er, passion recently has been about people betraying that bond in the mistaken belief that EF is bigger than it's members and some members wanting to prove a point. Grand gesture but forgetful that the motives of this Forum are not about me or you or any other individual or company but 'Us'. Too many storms in teacups / disagreements amongst friends can be attributed to Me Me Me over Us Us Us.
Granted we are under a commercial umbrella but that's not going to stop me contributing information on life in Switzerland. I hope the same can be said for those who've not hit 'delete' on their accounts.
I think it's a shame a splinter group was founded in reaction to ham fisted communication; it's the cart before the horse. Perhaps it was pride - how dare they speak to us in that tone? - perhaps it's boredom, whatever.
We're stronger when we work together and standing outside the tent pissing in helps nobody.
Before we fetch the pitchforks, I'd like to publically thank jrspet for the enormous dedication, politeness and effort he extends to this community, most of which goes unnoticed nor recognised. He snapped last night after a hectic few days. Of all people Dougal's Breakfast will no doubt turn t'other cheek and make some tea.
Oh and he is a prick sometimes, but aren't we all..?

| | Re: Drinks evening (with founder of The Local) | Quote: | | | | | The guy apologized and this is your answers? Sometimes not saying anything is the best answer. | | | | | We have had more than a week worth of wrath. People sharing their opinions, without thinking much about how we try to glue the community together even if it means shutting up and actually not sharing what we personally think, since it might not add to the community cohesion.
I am glad we are letting a mod, for once, who wouldn't share his opinion out of modesty even if we put a gun to his head, to actually share. And on top, opinion on a person who didn't manifest much of EF community spirit, lately, which was very disappointing.
I am not sure if pride is what it is, when a bunch of people instead of helping a community flee to another one and bounce back here to point fingers instead of at least keeping a low profile, while we are trying to do bits of damage control and in weakened numbers and limited hours we have.
We all get wrapped up in stuff, we surely do. We needed to keep an eye on the bigger stuff and not mincing our efforts and calming tiny fires all over the territory..Despite the fact that is the nature of our work, still, I would rather those little fires be friendly ones, practically related, than menacing personal fights between people who sit on two/three chairs.
People here are smart, though, and know. The pms we got from folks were lovely. Thanks.
Anyways, Nil, so jrspet said what he thought. Don't you? All the time? | Quote: | | | | | Before we fetch the pitchforks, I'd like to publicly thank jrspet for the enormous dedication, politeness and effort he extends to this community, most of which goes unnoticed nor recognized. | | | | | Thanks, brotha, yes, this. | Quote: | | | | Oh and he is a prick sometimes, but aren't we all..? | | | | | Speak of yerself | Quote: | | | | <no lolcat here> | | | | | I am sorry, but I just have to..

respek!
It's all good. Time to heal. Those who feel like they need answers, before it gets done here, let's offer Paul and the rest a good positive vibe on the meet ups, I think it will make things better for all of us who are here in our EF community.

It's such a relief to see the dust settle.
The whole thing, from start to finish, was a temper tantrum.. where everybody lost
With peace and some understanding..... we all win
really, we do.

Yeah
I wouldn't say, dust settles, since it feels like we are beginning to fix stuff. There has been positive changes already, being able to have a mod meet up, with EB, now Paul is coming, to offer help with anything people need to understand or explain to him, too. It seems to be a 2 way process, let's hope it is.
Beautiful weather here, by the way, the lake area is sunny and gold.. We need more Suisse Romandie meet ups, hope you can make it to the one with Paul | This user would like to thank MusicChick for this useful post: | |

I don't know if 238 posts on a social event thread is a record, but I'm guessing it is. So there's no need for any more posts here, unless they're genuinely connected to the drinks in Zürich where Paul will meet those who turn up. No more complaints about exclusivity -- in his very limited time in Switzerland, Paul has also scheduled a meet-up in Geneva, in case you missed that memo. And there are other threads here on EF where you can pose questions for Paul, or generally just rant.
It's Saturday, and it's a beautiful day. Hope you all get out to enjoy it.
