I would be interested if we end up in Amden again as I will come by car.

We did this by going up the Speer from Niederschlag and then back down round the Mattstock which landed us in Amden again but gave us a different route on the return bit. Great hike.

I will be at the Zürich HB meeting point at 07:00 tomorrow if anyone decides to come. PM me if you want my mobile phone number. Otherwise - look out for my red rucksack - I will be with it. |

| | Re: Hiking up Speer this Sunday. I really should not be exerting myself given that I am still coughing, but sometimes moderate exercise in the outdoors cures faster and the last bit sounds inviting Can you state the elevations of Amden and Niedeschlagwald? One option would be that I take the cable car and meet you at Niedeschlagwald. What time do you expect to reach there if you walk up?
But don't change your plans at all for my sake, i am still a weak "maybe.

I would expect to reach there at around 09:30 earliest.
Sounds like you are probably a bit too weak at the moment but of course the choice is yours. Send me a PM is you decide to come, as I get notifications of them on my phone. Take it easy mate and see you soon. |

I have a free day tomorrow. If this is still on then I could meet you on the train in Lachen around 7:30.
Anything equipment needed or regular hike?

TT, I was hoping to have you on board to do one more hike before you leave.
Perfectly understand you... I was the same last weekend and skipped a hike in Grindelwald. Get well and all the best!

| | Re: Hiking up Speer this Sunday. Thanks for organizing Basher, but we have our flag football game every other Sunday and 10-30 is one of those, so I'm in Wiedikon.
Hope some of the group can make the 11-6 Rigi hike when we send off our pal Niranjan after many years of hiking, running, snow shoeing and expending energy in various other sporting ways. | This user would like to thank Assassin for this useful post: | |

OT: Basher, if you want to settle old scores, we could have one last session in the badminton court, would be great to end it over one last beer ... ... ...
Edit: OK, I see that captain has already posted

Great trip yesterday and once again we were blessed with superb weather.
Thanks to Gaiijin and Pops for joining me - you two guys are good company.
Don`t tell anyone about how I almost made us miss that bus, after sitting on the church steps for over half an hour .
I am going to put some photos on within the next 2 days.

Thanks for organizing the hike, what a fantastic day with great weather. If we can find an open establishment for a beer next time that would really be the cherry on the cake.

Instead of making the round trip back down into Amden, we pushed on over the North side of Speer . . . a long, long treck down finishing in the village of Rieden, where we picked up a bus . . .just .
Just as a question, we saw there is a route up the south side of Mattstock but each time I have been up to Speer, I wondered if there is a route up the Mattstock south side. Every time before yesterday it was quite snowy but yesterday we saw the clear markings for a path going up. It was not marked on the map and looking back with binoculars it was difficult to pick the route out.
Has anyone done this route at all? and if so can you shed some light on it.
I am tempted to go back next weekend and check it out as the ridge along the top of Mattstock looks pretty good . . . from the south side anyway .

Basher - don't you mean the North side? The "normal" path goes up from the south side.
From the Speer side there is only the path that goes from Hintermatt to Walenstein - but I don't know whether it goes any further. If the ground stays reasonable in 4 weeks I'll run up there and let you know.
We've not managed any of the Churfisten this year - so that is on the "menu" for next year. I already have a couple of volunteers for that one.

Well, it looks pretty interesting, if only because we couldn`t pick out the route up or around what is effectively a cliff.
I am going on a mission . . . .
In any case - I put just a few photos into an album if anyone is interested - see my profile for details.
