City/Town: Neuchâtel
Event Type: Drinks/Bar
Meeting Point: Palma's Bar

For those of you who want to stretch their vocal chords, laugh at people doing so or just have a bit of a boogie, I propose a night of karaoke followed by dancing.

Details of location: Karaoke bar “Palma’s” – just around the corner from the Cerf, near the clock tower with a red face. It’s down some stairs, and on Saturday they have a very big sign outside saying “karaoké ce soir”. As far as I’m aware, they do karaoke pretty much every Saturday. They don’t have a website, so I haven’t been able to check whether or not it will be going on for our event, but I’m almost certain it will!

Afterwards, I thought we could go to the very classy Soho. Just to the right of Migros in the town centre, again down some stairs. It’s not a sophisticate place, but it is open until late for dancing, so who cares?

Hope lots of you can make it!

Re: Karaoke and Dancing in Neuchâtel

Last time i did karaoke was in Cyprus about a decade ago......in my drunken state i did take too far.

So much so that the next day on the beach i got pointed at and heard: ''Look, its AJ from the Backstreet Boys''.

cheers

But these fantastic inventions stop running far too early.

What would be the point of me coming all the way there, get drunk, sing a Backstreet Boys song, snog you and then have to leave at 10pm??

cheers

But the first train is really early, and this place doesn't close until really late. We would keep you company - promise!

Re: Karaoke and Dancing in Neuchâtel

Horrifically bad news everyone - a friend who knows the owner just told me that Palma's has closed down!!! (It closed on the 14th Jan... so recent... sniff). I'm genuinely gutted because I flippin' love that place. May have to resort to karaoke on youtube at my place beforehand (I do it alone often enough) before heading out somewhere then Soho). I'll do some research on karaoke joints and see if I can find an alternative, as my place is veeeeeeeeeeery small!

Re: Karaoke and Dancing in Neuchâtel

Sorry to hear that your event doesn't look like it's happening, but some good news on the radio tonight. Apparently, Neuchatel has revoked a law banning dancing on a number of holy days:

Quote:
The Neuchâtel government has relaxed the canton’s ban on dancing on religious holidays. In future only Good Friday and Christmas day will be dancing-free. Upto now dancing had been banned on seven days a year, including Whitsun and Ascension.
You can't make this stuff up.

Re: Karaoke and Dancing in Neuchâtel

Well personally I'm still planning on going out. If there aren't too many people, you can come round mine first (I live in a small studio, so can't house that many!) and we can head out later and go to a bar, then onto the "club".

Re: Karaoke and Dancing in Neuchâtel

OK, although it looks like this event is a bit of a flop on here, I thought I'd log on to say that both my boyfriend and I are ill, so we'll have to pull out of Saturday anyway (I've been ill for well over a week now - ridiculous!).

Re: Karaoke and Dancing in Neuchâtel

Is anyone out there interested in reviving this idea of a Karaoke/Dancing night. I quite enjoy embarrassing myself doing both of these things, but it's way more fun with a group than by yourself.

I'm out of town all next week, but will be back the week of October 1st.

Hope some folks are interested in a silly good time.

Re: Karaoke and Dancing in Neuchâtel

Palma's closed. I was absolutely devastated, I think I've only just got over it.

However, there is a karaoke night at Trois Pièces et Demi the first Thursday of every month, and I was planning on dragging a visiting friend there for the October session.

Once a month. On a Thursday.

Ridiculous.

EDIT: And you're missing the Fête des Vendanges?!!

Re: Karaoke and Dancing in Neuchâtel

Oh, Palma closing is so sad. How do they expect people to survive without a Karaoke bar close by? I'd definitely be interested in the first Thursday every month karaoke. Also, October 3rd is my birthday... and since I don't know anyone in Neuchatel yet, it would be wonderful to sing/dance on Thursday Oct 4th! Let me know if you end up going out.

In regards to missing the festival, I am very sad to miss out, but I'll be in Munich for Oktoberfest if that counts at all
