City/Town: Engelberg
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: Basel/Luzern or Engelberg

The weather forecast looks good (sunny) and there is still plenty of snow, so I am going x country skiing tomorrow. Adrian is coming too. ( how do I start a poll to see if that encourages people to come, as he thinks it will, or scares people away? )

Details: Catch the 0817hrs train from the Basel SBB, platform 7, to Luzern. Change trains to Engelberg, catching the 0935hrs train from platform 15 ( that being the platform tucked around the corenr, up from the platform 14.) Arrive in Engelberg at 1026hrs.

If you are coming from somewhere other than Basel, we can meet in Luzern on the train, or in Engelberg.

Don't have the ski equipment? Hire for the day - only 28chf, from the shop one minute walk from the Engelberg train station.

It is a 3 minute walk to the sports centre, for leaving excess bags etc, right at the start of the ski trail.

Ski trail day pass: 8chf, from the sports centre.

Never skied before? Doesn't matter. x country is easy to learn and even Adrian has made it around the whole trail on his first attempt. Conditions are perfect for beginners.

Bring: sunglasses, hat, gloves, layers of sports clothes that you can move in. A day pack, in case you end up wanting to take layers off midway.

Food: bring a sandwhich if you want for lunch. We will probably stop 2/3 of the way around the course ( 1/3 for very slow people) for lunch/snack or a drink, at a nice cafe right by the trail.

HAve I forgotten any details?

Thanks for arranging! And thanks for the informal lessons, too.

It was great fun, and the weather was on our side. Loved the fact it was so warm that we could sit outside drinking coffees half way through.

I do, however, think it's very inconsiderarte of the Swiss to keep Engelberg so far from Basel. They should move it closer.

Cake????
Yes, he took cake. (need you ask?)

Then there was the delicious cake in the restaurant on the train on the way back to Basel....

The only thing missing was a bag of delicious scones for half way. Plus the scone baker of course.

Thanks guys. I thoroughly enjoyed the day too - the skiing, the company, the gulas, the cake, the coffee (plural.)

Cake????
Of course! Cake at the half way mark (thanks to one I brought with me from yesterday's St Louis trip) and half of one on the train back thanks to a very generous Biff.
