City/Town: Weesen (Walensee)
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: Weesen, SG Train Station

OK - a late start for the year, but we're off running again. Our first outing will be Saturday, March 24. Meeting at Weesen, SG train station at 09:45 we'll take the train to Walenstadt and then run back to Weesen along the northern side of the Walensee. This is a 23km stretch, gravel, some dirt trails and towards the end about 3km of asphalt. Vertical climb element around 900m as there are two uphill sections, one at the beginning and one just after Quinten.

More details here: http://guerilla-running.com/en/home/...seelauf_2.html

Shoe recommendations: Regular running sneakers, light trail shoes, nothing extreme required as the final asphalt section excludes spikes or large studs.

Carry your own fluids, Camelbak or water bottles. There is one place in Quinten which may be able to sell you drinks, but we'd recommend bringing your own.

Expect a running time of around 2.5 hours.

Re: Trail running - Walensee

The route map should be online this evening for those interested but aren't sure of the terrain/distance climb.

In summary though:
- Out of Walenstadt - this is a typical stony forest trail, which zig-zags onto the plateau.
- Across the plateau - farm track with grass either side.
- Down to the lake - tighter path with expose roots. Caution is advised on the steep descent
- To Quiten then Betlis - more stone trails - with path rising up and down.
- Betlis to Weesen - tarmac along the lake.

I have run and hiked this trail a number of times - it is a beautiful route and well worth making the effort.

The website now has email working on it - so you can email to register(at)guerilla-running.com

This is a beautiful run - photographs will be taken as we trot along.

Weather is looking reasonable for Saturday - around 10-14c with sun poking through.

Re: Trail running - Walensee

Just want to bump this thread, the weather is looking great and we are looking forward to a decent couple of hours high above and then back close to the Walensee. This is a classic route for both hikers and runners with spectacular close views of both the lake and Churfirsten peaks and a nice leisurely final 6kms as we cruise back down the hill to Fli and Weesen.

Dear All

Just wanted to advertise for what looks to be a super event on sunday in the area of Luzern; http://www.berglauf.ch/index.asp?id=...200&inhalt=384

It is short mountain race 9.5 km with about 1000 verticals. I will participate.

It is possible to enter on the same day in the starting area.

If you decide to join, let me know, so we can meet up.

I will probably post some more information on facebook.

Best

Fred
