City/Town: Zurich
Event Type: Dinner
Meeting Point: Desperados Wiedikon

Hey Gringoes! I've been wanting to try this place out for a few months, so anybody care to join me?

http://www.desperado.ch/

This is in Wiedikon, near Schmiedie Wiedikon station. The number 9 and 14 trams run straight past it.

Plan is show up, eat, drink, compare sombreroes. I'll wait until sometime tuesday and then make a reservation, so please RSVP asap to give me an idea of numbers.
RSVP'd Yes: 12 (7 members and 5 guests)
  • Uncle Max - You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave
  • Nanda - I think I'm going to make it this time :)
  • DanielL + 4 guests - Yum!
  • jemma - Sod it, am sure after a few tequilas I won't even know I've got a cold (must make sure I don't get carried away on the shots though as we all know what happened at pub golf!)
  • Natasha
  • Woodsie - Glad I checked instructions. The only Desperados I knew of before was in Höngg.
  • hugh_abu + 1 guest - Hell yeah...!!!!! Based on below post.
RSVP'd Maybe: 4 (4 members and No guests)
  • Moran - I'm right around the corner but it depends on work, will hopefully make it but may have to turn up after dinner
  • Jessy-lein - I may come. It'd be on my way home from the gym. Before or after the shower. I don't know what Mexican food is like in England, but desperados is.......as close to mexican food as Switzerland is to Mexico. But the margarhitas are taquilla-y
  • Su1975
  • MarcoPolo78 - Gonna try to make it for a quick drink later...!
RSVP'd No: 6
  • terryhall - Attendance precluded by prior arrangements. Report back tho cos I like my Mexicana :)
  • polly - Love the place ... but Grasshoppers are playing tomorrow :(
  • Nathu
  • saharanz - Can't make this one. Not sure if that's a bad thing or a good thing????
  • MathNut - Can't make it... sounds like fun though!
  • thoean - Sorry, at pumpkin country on pumpkin day.
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Re: Zurich - Wiedikon Desperados

I have always been disappointed in Mexican restaurants in Europe in general, my family is from Texas so I've been spoiled when it comes to Tex-Mex. However I think that the MAIN point of such an evening is to get to know people, get drunk on tequilas (or cerveza) and have a grand time. Sorry I won't be able to make it, but I wish you all a Buen Provecho and a good time!

Re: Zurich - Wiedikon Desperados

Thirty-two! That's pretty much the entire non smoker area!

The Desperado is so close to home but alas, I'm working in the fire brigade until late tomorrow and probably can't make it.

The service quality went down in August after two new waitresses had joined, but my friends have assured me that everything is back to normal now. Enjoy some molletes and hacienda fries for me...

Re: Zurich - Wiedikon Desperados

Lets be honest we not going for a gourmet meal. Mex-stylee food is more about having a laugh as a group with terracotta decor, plastic cactii , spicy food, coloured goo and drinks with sticks in or on fire. So believe me it will be quite a night. (Oooo... what a night)

I don't groan often, but that was both corny *and* contrived. You're lucky...

I live for groanable puns, you know that.

You just know when the food is served i will be saying that it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table.

Well it certainly livened up after you disappeared: hugh started taking snuff. At one point I thought he was going to lean on the mantelpiece, sip on his brandy and start telling us about hunting in India.

It makes baby Jesus cry that your only experience with Mexican food is something akin to desperados.

To counter this, i have eaten there twice and found it to be decent Mexican, akin to most UK Mex restaurants, it isn't authentic Guadalajara, but hey, it is tasty and the waiters can 'hablar espanol' which adds to the authenticity.

In the unlikely event that anyone notices, I probably wont get there until about 1930. I must irradiate a shirt, else alles wird Maus-grau sein.

Yes, I gathered Hugh doesn't have 20 friends. And lies a lot.

I was inundated by people last night at the Kaisers, asking me if they could come along and join. I've said they can, as long as they play "I Predict A Riot" for us. Will be adjusting the booking today hopefully...

Well, you can rest assured, that is not my only experience with Mexican food. I have experienced far, far, far worse...

Though you are stirring up memories of a Burrito I had in a dodgy little Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica. Simultaneously the cheapest (Taco Bell slop doesn't count), biggest and best Mexican meal I have ever had.
