Re: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football

Please bring along 2 shirts (either white, dark, or colour), and if you've got a football bring that along too.

Again, some new rules:

1) If you sign up to play, you have priority, BUT this does NOT mean you can come whenever you please and expect your spot to remain secure.

2) Signed up players will have until 12:10 or until the second game commences, whichever comes first, after which you lose your priority to play

Looking at the weather forecast for this weekend, I think this should be 2 rain jackets.

Re: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football

Looking at the weather forcast shouldn't we be considering another pitch?

I will bring spare shoes with tread and suggest we play at the Ämtlerwiese if the pitch at Schanzengraben is wet.

An indoor pitch would be even better. Does anyone know of one in Zürich?

Link to pitch.

I played several times there in the rain. It's a decent pitch, big enough for several matches at the same time and it has big goalposts if we are lucky enough to get there first. The question is, will people play in the rain?

Re: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football

I guess it depends if it's just a bit of drizzle or if it's raining cats and dogs. The Ämtlerwiese doesn't have a covered area that I know of. The nearby Fritschiwiese does have a covered area next to it where people could leave their bags, but there are no goals.

Link to the Fritschiwiese:

I guess we may well find out this weekend if people are prepared to play when it's wet.

Re: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football

Perhaps it's just one of those things they told us while growing up in Africa, "don't play in open areas during thunderstorms, for fear of lightning striking you down.".

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I don't fancy getting too soaked, nor do I think Mr. T can stand in the might lord's fury (Lord Thor, that is).

Count me out of playing in the rain, but Enjoy.

I know that there's an indoor pitch circa the Escher-Wyss Platz tram stop, but perhaps someone can expand upon that

Re: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football

you need to remember - the main reason for not playing is how slippery & dangerous it becomes for players when wet..

Re: CANCELLED: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football

Sorry Lads,

The game at the usual location is off because it's starting to come down a bit now. I held out as long as possible, and till about 10:45am I was getting my hopes up.

Next week then...

Note: Welliewanger might have a grass field game on despite the weather, please follow up with him if interested.

Re: CANCELLED: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football

It's rather late in the day to reorganize the meeting point so I will go along to Schanzengraben to see if anyone turns up at 12:00. If there are a few who want to play on a grass pitch then I suggest moving on to the Ämtlerwiese at 12:30. We can then try out the new pitch . It's only a bit of drizzle so the grass pitch should be fine.

I'll bring a ball

Will

Re: CANCELLED: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football

We did manage to play at the Aemtliwiese today. And after today's game, those who were there and I would like to suggest that we try playing there for the next couple of weeks to see if it's a better alternative to the Schanzengraben pitch that's always at the mercy of the weather.

There are moveable big goal posts on the large area of grass that could even host an eleven-a-side match and even a Schanzengraben-like pitch too. There are thus plenty of reasons to give it a go.

What do you guys think?
