*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zürich
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: Ämtlerwiese

Seeing as we've got enough players signed up as "Maybe" for the game at Schanzengrabenpromenade, let's set up a second game at Ämtlerwiese so we can all play. Depending on the weather, we can play on the astroturf or on the grass, bring studded boots if you have them. Note that the 12 Maybes from the thread for the original game at the Schanzengrabenpromenade have first dibs on playing in this game, as indicated in this post. If anyone on the list can't play at the Ämtlerwiese, please sign up as a No. (This week it'll be a bit of a fudge organisation-wise, but I'm sure we'll manage.)

Fun, friendly football fun close to Lochergut. The easiest way to get there is to take the tram 2 or 3 to Lochergut, or the bus 33 to Bertastrasse.

Notes:

* Please sign as 'yes' or 'no'. 'Maybe' only after 15 people have signed up.
* Check the thread for a game on / game off notice
* Play nice - it's FUN, not the World Cup final.
* The time is 12:00 - 14:00
* New players and women are very welcome (unless we've reached the player limit)
* All skill levels are represented, ranging from comically inept to Spanish
* It's free
* A lovely, refreshing fountain is nearby. Bring a plastic bottle.
* If the pitch is slippy or if it's raining the event is cancelled (because it's really dangerous)
* Bring a ball if you have one

PLAYER LIMIT 15
AFTER 15 people have signed up then go ahead and sign up as 'Maybe', so that we have an orderly waiting list.

If you have signed up as 'Yes':
Please show up on Sunday or update your status well in advance.

If you are signed up on the 'Maybe' waiting list:
Keep checking through till Sunday morning to see if anybody has dropped out.

See location of venue here.

Hey Guys, if you've sure you're attending this game, could you please take you selves off the list for the Paradeplatz location? If we don't have enough players there, then I might need to cancel the game in advance so the non-locals don't need to make a trip here.

Cheers

I have subscribed in another guy if you dont mind, let me know if it is OK, if not I will take him out.
Let's keep it at 15 players max so we retain the flexibility to play on the smaller pitch, without having to faff around with substitutions - sorry.

By the same token, Farns, I'm afraid we've already reached our player limit (the 12 original signups and Mexpat+2).. but of course now there are a couple of free spots for the Schanzengrabenpromenade game.

Apologies for the complication, just trying to arrange this in a way that's fair, and will allow both games to go ahead.

Re: Zurich Sunday Afternoon Five-a-Side Football II

re_born - you're already signed up for the game at the Schanzengrabenpromenade, and we've reached the 15-player limit here - so even if you have managed to control the space-time continuum to such an extent that you can play in 2 places at once, best to stay signed up for the first game.

I'm closing signups for this game now, before it gets even more complicated - if anyone can't make it, please post here in the thread to let us know. Cheers.

The small pitch at the Ämtlerwiese can accommodate 7 v 7 tops - usually we do 3 teams of 5 and rotate, so that everyone gets a chance for a breather now and then.

Yo guys,

Just a quick thought. If it rains tomorrow or the concrete surface is not properly dry (very likely!), the Schanzengraben game will be off and you guys will move to grass. Surely you might want to open up the thread to maybes as it will be better to play with more players on grass. Also, it is also very likely that some of those who signed up and who are, dare I say, not man enough to play in rain will stay at home tomorrow leaving you with a huge grass pitch with huge goals and less that 15 players.

What do you think?

Hi there,

To me football is for everyone and there is plenty of space in the grass pitch, rain or no rain

Good point - I was just assuming that if the Schanzengrabenpromenade game is rained off, the players will come to the Ämtlerwiese and we'll have a giant game on the grass. Should be decent numbers in that case.

Absolutely, we could have a ruckus of 20 vs 20 chasing the ball around.. but smaller games are almost always more enjoyable, in terms of the quality of the play, and time on the ball for each player. 5-a-side with 3-team rotation is a good balance between getting people involved, and actually having a decent game.

Either way: for tomorrow, we can have a quick show of hands to see if we play on the small pitch or the grass. Forecast is looking chilly but dry.

Thanks to everyone that turned up today - really enjoyed the game (and the post-game cans - thanks for allowing immediate beer-gut replenishment, Mexpat).
