Dear Bookclubbers

Thanks for a great evening yesterday. For our next book I'd like to suggest The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. It's a novella about a middle aged man coming to terms with his past.

Hope to see you all there.

This book really starts in a very promising way. Time and memory are among my favourite themes in literature.

Fellow readers, are you almost ready? I can't wait for the discussion, and don't forget that this time we exceptionally meet at 8pm.

Re: Zurich Book Club - The Sense of an Ending

I woke up this morning thinking that we should remind people about the 8pm start - telepathy?

I read in the newspaper this morning that President Obama is reading this book too! (is it supposed to be an omen?) we can ask him to join us on sunday.

What a gripping book. I think it has to be read twice to appreciate it fully.
Why is Obama reading it? I would pick something with a more cheerful title if I were him.

Re: Zurich Book Club - The Sense of an Ending

I really enjoyed the discussion last night, and it was good to see new faces!
what a dense book, it definitely kept all the title's promises! Eros and Thanatos!

it's really nice the way the book club is "growing", I think we are a cozy and friendly group and I am always thankful and surprised at the new insights I receive from fellow readers (see for instance "the broken egg theme")

so thank you again to all who suggested their own favourite as we went along and will do so in future and of course to a big thanks to BokerTov who had the wonderful idea of starting a Zurich Book Club with a difference!
