Re: Hobbies anyone?

Have been thinking about this as well - now that my daughter is draughting her own life going-forward.

I've tended to focus on work - have abandoned tennis, hiking, skiing, traveling etc. due to health / accident reasons over the years, and would be very open to other fulfilling suggestions.

Re: Hobbies anyone?

I mess around with computer based electronic music composition and production.

It's a great way to get musically creative without needing to be a virtuoso with a particular instrument, although some playing ability with a keyboard is an immense advantage.

It's great fun, and although my compositions are wanting - actually composition is probably the wrong word for the noises I make - it's very satisfying to bounce a track down to my iPod and enjoy it - a bit narcissistic I'll admit, but it really is music that only it's creator could love

Is that your hobby then? Are you trying to get your 10 posts so you can sell something or are you trolling? Whatever you are doing its not contributing anything of value to the forum

It is not a joke, I rally like fighting sport. I have long experience in Asian and European fight styles.

I just gave my opinion

I see that here most of the people like running and hiking, that is reasonable considering the beautiful Swiss mountains

Hi - for me its ham Radio (when I get the time, more dxing) and now looking to get into astronomy as a night time Hobby and now making a short list of potential telescopes. Figure it could be a fun solo activity and later on a social one.

Re: Hobbies anyone?

When I lived in other parts of the world was the big hobby scuba diving in general and underwater photography to be precise. In Switzerland that's not too rewarding. Yes, there are some people who love to jump into a cold lake with little to see, but that's not me.

In winter I go skiing. In summer I am still working on it... Last weekend I went on the lake on a stand-up paddle board which I bought last autumn on this very forum and had a great time.

Re: Hobbies anyone?

Used to have this weird(?) hobby of collecting articles from different sources. Newspaper/ magazine clippings, etc. Internet kinda made it redundant.

Now have photography, reading, hiking and blogging.

Re: Hobbies anyone?

In the winter I ski, in the summer I hike. Year around I play the piano (my teacher would argue that skiing and hiking are interfering with my progress though).

Thinking of starting a hiking/skiing-related blog, but haven't decided yet whether it would constitute a worthwhile contribution to the world or just be advanced navel gazing.

I'm looking to get into astronomy too, or precisely aliens... Would love to know if there's any social group for that.

This is the internet, you'll have to be more specific. Which aliens in particular?

I'm actually serious. Aliens, not humans. Part of the outer space.

Ummm, those were the kind of aliens I was referring to.

You are in the land of von Däniken, so you've hit the motherlode, so to speak.

Re: Hobbies anyone?

Foraging for mushrooms is a good summer/autumn activity...fresh air, exercise plus relaxing at the same time. However you need to invest a bit of time learning what is edible and what will make you ill and possibly even kill you.

Actually mushrooming was really my husband's hobby and he has spent a fortune on books, and going on courses and plenty of time in a mushroom society. I am too lazy to have my own hobbies...so I have tagged along and got him to show me how to identify which mushrooms are really delicious and which are the nasty, evil ones (foolish man has taught me how to recognize the deadly Knollenblätterpilze...he has been warned now about pissing me off too often....).

Peace, love and mung beans to all.

First time I heard about him. Complete amateur. Doing some research now. I used to read religiously Sci-fi magazines in another country then wasn't able to keep the hobby due to work. I read The Three Body Problem lately and want to get back in.

Their form of existence had always been abstract in my mind, which is exactly why it is fascinating to learn, research and theorise.
