31.07.2008 18:30 to 23:00
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zurich
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: TBD

This is a challenging and fun ride in the hills just outside of Zurich, that we do (almost) every Thursday... It is intended for cyclists who are experienced with biking hills and looking for a ride to challenge themselves to ride harder than they might on their own (or for the super-fit to push the rest of us!).

Please PM me with your cell number if you're planning to join us if I don't already have it. We can wait a few minutes after 6:30 to start if we know you'll be there soon thereafter...

No ride if raining! Bring lights for your bike if you can - It can get dark toward the end of the ride.

As Hillseeker is off being a tour guide, we will have the ride on Zuri Oberlander side of the lake this week instead for some variety. Meeting point and exact route will be posted later.

Meeting Place: TBD
Start Time: 6:30 pm

Distance: ? About 50K

Climbing: TBD
Ride Time: 2 hours (approx.)

Route Map: TBD

Post-ride drinks & food: Sorry no Hillseeker hospitality this week, but the beer and chicken fried rice at NOOBA is pretty good too.

Small Print: Be sure to wear a helmet! We will be riding on roads with cars and possibly tractors coming directly at you on small paths. Anyone participating in the EF rides are doing so at his/her own risk.

You will all have to take it easy on me...PTKate's routes are just too tough - 25% hills into strong headwinds (active recovery ride, I am not buying it )

I think Hillseeker and her have an evil plot to make all EF cyclists suffer alot.

In seriousness, it was a great route and should be part of an EF outing sometimes

I can put the GPS map up sometime, we started in Illnau and the specifics are blurry from there I remember a castle (with a torture chamber or so I was told), some rolling hills, a nice river and a very scary offroad descent on a road bike.

He exaggerates of course. Spent the whole time gallantly shielding me from the wind.

Make him play hard - he's only got tonights session before taking it easy for next weekends race.

I can't do Thursday this week, as should be resting for the Saturday ride...not sure if someone else wants to take the lead...or we can do it on Wednesday this week.

In my 12 years of living in Switzerland I have seen they are very accurate.

They fail from time to time, but I'd say in most of cases they are right.

They are right one day ahead maximum... weather is too changeable in Switzerland due to mountains and such to be very accurate...that is my experience at least...

if you predict rain everyday you will be right/more than you are wrong.

This week Wednesday may actually suit me better then Thursday since its looking like I will without MTB until later in the week.

As for the weather. My trusty weather sources are so far telling me that Wednesday and Thursday evenings should be ok. I don't put all my eggs in one basked and just look at one source, I have a few... one of them being a pay service which has served me very well over the last few years.

But as Dakman says, we can only get an idea of what its going to do know and that can all change in a matter of hours.

Re: Thursday Night Road Bike Ride (Zurich)

Just a note that I won't be setting up any Thurs nite ride this week... We just got back from two epic riding days over some incredibly beautiful mountain passes, and got lucky enough to have great weather - it was wonderful. But after all that, I think the only riding I'll be doing tomorrow will be on the train to go get a massage!

The weather doesn't look so great either... Maybe we can try again next week. Stay dry out there!
