Poetry/Book/Banter club in the Geneva/Lausanne area

Hi all

Back in 2010 or so, I regularly met with a group of lovely members of this site for an occasional evening drink and Poetry/Book reading chit-chat in Morges.

It's been a while, and my wife and I would be happy to meet some new folk from the Geneva/Lausanne area to start these gatherings again.

Is this something those in the region would be up to?

Just so it doesn't look like a lot of effort, before dwelling into the deep end of for example talking about an entire book, I think starting with some poetry would be an easy way into making some friends and so on.

If we choose a place like Morges, I do have a few free seats in the car for those who may need it.

Happy to hear if this is of interest :)

Best,

Heikki

Omg.

I can't believe this!

Poetry is good, as always.

Oh hey there MusicChick, been a long time!

It's been quite a few years so my memory is faltering, however the meetings were always really fun :)

My wife would really love to make more friends, so something like this would be wonderful for us!

Indeed, this is a great initiative! It will be lovely to get to know her and we got cca 10 years to catch up. Anyone into books/poetry/art - let's hang out.

Yay! Let's do it :)

I need to go see if that bar is still open in Morges. It was nice as it was quiet in the evenings, I think we did our meetings on Wednesdays or Thursdays, didn't we? Or we can always go for another place if there are recommendations, we just need something that's not too loud or crowded.

I'll setup a proposal for a meetup in a few days time (to give this some visibility), and we can start off simple and go from there. With all the mobile phones and tablets we have these days, I'm sure we all will have a poem or two we can share right from our pockets, purses, and so on :)

Have a nice evening and take care!

Could also be a discussion about art and the like, my wife paints so there's always that too.

In any case, poetry and books are always a good way to break the ice, and then we work from there as befits us all :)

So for anyone in the region, show your interest and let's go for it! Bring your partners too, the more the merrier :)

Wonderful idea!! :)
Can we join?

Of course, you're more than welcome to join! :)

Would be good to get around ten of us like in the past, I need to go take a look and see if that bar is still open, it was fairly well located for most people, walking distance from a large car park and the train station.

Ah yes, it was the bar of the Hotel Couronne if I recall? https://www.couronne-morges.ch/

The bar was downstairs, I guess we could once again use this venue, might just need to call them up and confirm there's nothing big going on.

Maybe the 19th or the 20th of February, shortly after dinner (around 8pm). How does that sound?

A wk before wouldn't work?

Vacances scolaires on the dates you suggested. Or a wk after?

Yes - Couronne it was. There is Balzac there in the center, but it is rather hipster and always packed. Plus, to entertain hipsters with poetry, I think our taste isn't insta enough :D

They do have great hot chocolates, hister-like overpriced.

The parents of my wife are visiting us the week of 10, and I will be in the US the week of 24, hence I was thinking about the week of 17.

If that clashes with school holidays (as I have no kids, I'm quite oblivious to those dates :) ), then either in March, or next week?

I'm just not sure if it would give enough time for people to see this post and plan their time accordingly.

Let's see if a few more show their interest and I can make an event entry for next week.

Ay, symphonies next wk, desolée, I forgot. March is awesome. This way we can look forward to it. Cristmas all over again!

On a side - anyone has a regular typerwriter by any chance? To give away? French letters? Old one would be amazing :p

Let's aim for March then, gives enough time for visibility and all that.

Regarding the type writer, Ricardo seems to have some for as little as 1 or 5chf: https://www.ricardo.ch/de/c/schreibm...e%20à%20écrire

Is this the kind you're thinking of?

Oh yeah, exactly. I grew up with the Continental, still hear it faintly coming from the distance, people typing diagnoses and prescriptions, through a blue carbon paper... Except it did not have the French letters. Looks amazing.

You usually get them directly from the chemist. No need for a prescription. Or a diagnosis for that matter.

Frost is one of my favorites. Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evenings is probably my favorite poem of all.

Sounds like a great idea, but Morges is quite a trek from the Geneva area.

There are often dispensing machines for them in public loos too if you happen to get lucky and are unprepared.

We could see where we meet, too. Closer to GE would be ok for me, just depends where. We met in Morges because we had people coming from LS. It would be sweet, though, to meet at Couronne, for good old times sake :)
