1. EF Zurich Superspreader 2021

As previously mentioned did I move back to Switzerland in April and well, looks like Covid is at least temporarily down.

Few things changed in Switzerland but one I recognized was the expat social events. Some years ago were there a lot of events of EF that were fundamentally non-profit from users and for users while "other offerings" were a little more on the commercial side.

I had a look around and:
1. there is obviously absolutely nothing happening on EF anymore.
2. there are a few facebook and meetup groups but they seem to be run by people who get comissions from bars to organize events or are planned by sport trainer, yoga instructors or similar to get business...

So: is there any interest in a simple, real life get-together in or around Zurich?

Im happy to set one up...

The idea is to check interest here first... I'd say afterwork drinks on a Wednesday or Thursday typically work best. If the weather is good at the lake, but at least a backup plan in a pub would make sense.

In honesty it would be nice to put a face to a lot of the names, I've been on the forum for 3.5 years and have never seen these so called social events.

Outdoor beers sound perfect!

But....I'm taking vacation and crossing the Atlantic next week. So, late August?

can you add a survey to work out the best day?

Thursdays and Wednesdays are not so good for me but most other days work.

I can only meet when it is a leap year, and it has to be in a goat friendly location. See you in 2024

Hell, no. I did a poll the first time I organized and event here in 2008 and it became a total train wreck with doodle sending me dozens of emails for every new entry within a few minutes... never again.

People can post their preference here for timing, activity and location and I simply set something up that fits most.

Fun fact: back then did we get around 25 people together WITHIN A DAY FOR THE SAME EVENING.

If you want that level of participation now you’d have to get Musicchick along and put her in a giant wicker man style statue.

Re: 1. EF Zurich Superspreader 2021

It's the summer, so it has to be outside like lakeside beers, and anything after 5PM. Know nothing about ZH except it's 25 min away by train and how to get to the Universitätspital and the ETH

There is a back-up, just in case. The sacrificed gifts (goats) go at her feet.

Looks like milk chocolate, so the fire is just for chocolate fondue.

Ever wonder where some of the banter between longer standing members comes from? Quite a few of us used to get together most weeks. I‘d say it started dying off around 2012. In fact I can trace about 90% of my social circle back to EF drinks or the International Ski Club of Zurich (which used to be advertised on here). This is probably why I have no Swiss friends still.

So long as it isn‘t Talacker with it‘s horrendous beer, I‘ll make an effort to come. I‘d rather a bar with outside space than a BYOB in a park

Re: 1. EF Zurich Superspreader 2021

In case you guys have trouble finding a place to meet up, there is a nice, free public beach area in Greifensee on Lake Greifensee called "Seebad Furren" that has a grill, bathrooms, changing rooms, etc. It's a nice spot for swimming, too, with a shallow area for kids as well as a long dock to walk out on and a floating dock that you can swim out to. It's open until 10 pm every day of the week.

https://www.badi-info.ch/furren.html

It's a roughly 15 minute train ride from the Zurich HB to the Nanikon-Greifensee train station and then a 10 minute walk from there to the beach. There is also parking near the beach.

Anyhoo, I just thought I'd throw that out there in case you guys have trouble finding a place near a lake to meet up. It doesn't usually get too busy there during the week but can become busy on the weekends when it's hot and sunny.
