Re: England Rugby Saturday 24th

Well the Twist has always been good in showing different sports, especially rugby it's just sometimes a shame that one person can say something on a forum and try to bring it down. Anyway he lives in his own world, been a customer there for six years what a great place to meet x-pats. Will be watching the game there on the 24th! bring on those Guinness, the best in town as well!!!

Well I'll be back at the Twist at some stage... although I'm away for the next two 6 Nations weekends. What a stupid day to get married!

You seem to be fairly paranoid about criticism of the place. What gives?

To be serious, poor service is a common factor with just about all the pubs in Zuerich, at one time or other. The last few times I was there the staff were fine but not a patch on the golden years when they had the Aussie/South African crew in charge.

The biggest problem with the Twist is the manager of the establishment (assuming it's the same guy that was there around 6 months ago). Definitely quite an abrasive personality with a king-size ego judging from my ungratifying encounter with him. Not a good combo - heard that he'd pissed off the rugby club and quite a few others too.

For atmosphere, the Twist comes closest to a 'real' pub. Still some way off though. Even though it doesn't really feel like a proper pub, the Nelson has an appeal all of its own :-) I don't really like Lady Hamilton's, just something really crappy about it. The Dub/Paddy Reillys never really did it for me except for Paddy's Day when it comes into its own.

Re: England Rugby Saturday 24th

So will there be any more paddy's in the twist that day. Or will I have to stand and face the sight of the English entering the last bastion of Irishness on our fair Isle alone?

"Apparantly Ireland will be without O'Driscoll and Horgan and don't have the resources in depth to overcome such losses. However neither will England have the armoured cars and machine guns they had the last time they entered Croke Park!"

This actually got printed in the English times last week!!!

Great stuff... Looking forward to a little good natured slagging then!!!

Does anyone know if the Twist shows the Heineken Cup games. Want to keep up with how Munster are doing while I'm away from the ol' sod.

Re: England Rugby Saturday 24th

Unfortunatley I didn't get to see the France game, just heard that it wasn't great and O'Gara scored everything for us. What more can you expect from a Cork man .

As for the speccy twat. I'd love to see you say that to his face... Better still do it while he is out on the beer with Paul O'Connell. Oh.... I forgot... they won't be going on the beer at this time of year... ...but then again the grand slam is off the cards now so maybe we will lose interest!!!

Re: England Rugby Saturday 24th

To summarise: I think your lads were waiting for a third anthem and France were a try to the good before they realised the game was on.

It was a good game to watch and I for one was gutted when Monsieur Garlic went over at the end. It was good to see the Chabal chap who my wife said "he looks a bit gay" getting cruched in EVERY ruck. He was wiped out.

And I reckon I could outrun Brian - when he's on crutches

Re: England Rugby Saturday 24th

Thanks for the summary lob, sounds quite similar to what my brother told me. Maybe our boys started to play the wrong game, you know easy thing to mix up rugby and gaelic football when you are in Croke Park!!! Maybe they should have copped on though when they discovered the ball wouldn't roll!!!

Either way, I hope they don't have the same delay in finding second gear on the 24th. A loss to the English in Croke Park could be enough to send the entire country into a spiral of depression that it would never recover from...

Who would have thought that the loss of a rugby match could potentially lead to the death of the so called Celtic Tiger!!!

Well Gav,

To be totally honest reading into your messages about first the staff and now the abrasive personality with a king size ego, mate it seems you have a hughe problem. I can't see him being that, but you have your own view points in life like all of us. He's still around and I'll send him your best regards . He's a Saffie and he's name is Swanny, hopefully the spelling is correct otherwise I'll walk into the king size ego...
