Hi
I just found this video which shows the difference between when you use the same lens on a full frame camera(5D) and when you use it on a cropped sensor camera (7D).
I think it illustrates very well the differences. http://vimeo.com/14832168
Have fun

Hello all
I just discovered this thread and thought it might be a good place to find what I'm looking for.
I just bought a Canon 500D camera in Switz. Unfortunately it did not come with an English instruction manual but instead German, French, Italian, Dutch.
Would anyone happen to have an English manual I could have? I know I could download one but it would be very bulky compared to the little book and I'm about to go travelling. I'd happily exchange any of my German, French, Italian or Dutch or all manuals for an English one. Or if you don't need your English one could I send you some money for postage to send me it.
Thanks

If so you could avoid any bulk.

We met only few times, then it stopped. If you are interested you can rearrange for another meeting, but my opinion to make it work, you should consider the following:
1. Members should pay a monthly, or an annual fee, and thus we can pay an instructor.
2. Group members should be on the same level, I.E. beginners with beginners and experts with experts.

Halaseh

And well, I have a full time job, and don't need another one. | Quote: | | | | | 2. + who's volunteering to demonstrate the beginners?
If people come up with ideas what to do next, there is no problem in arranging more photo club meetings.

Hi Begga,
The idea of having a club with no one in charge is great but I think it is a bit difficult to maintain. As far as I know, the club was started twice, and in both times it lasted for few weeks. I was not there in the first time, but the second time around 8 months ago, we met 3 or 4 times and that was it... The first meeting more than 20 attended, then the number decreased dramatically to to 2 in the last meeting, and I never heard back from the club.
What new ideas/rules would you suggest to make the club succeed if it was launched again for the third time?
Regards,
Ala

Hi Ala,
That's not really correct. We started this club over 2 years ago, it was well active for months and then it went to a winter brake. Then it started again, and again, worked very well for months were we were meeting 2x per month. Mostly organized by myself, BaselLife and Butters. Then again it dropped down when winter came and we tried again for the third time, the time you joined (one time?).
The problem is, I think is that the three of us who did organize have done most what we could think off, and were basically started to circling because/for new people joining only for couple of times. We also want to develope and there are some limits when people only come one or two times, just to learn how their camera works. I can fully admit though, we have all improved a great deal, thanks to this photoclub. But it would be nice to have more advance people too, or at least if the newbies would show a little interest to develop more.
But if you are interested in setting up some program, paid or unpaid, feel free!
Regards,
Begga

Hi Begga,
I am sorry to mention inaccurate information about the first meetings of the club... But this was the impression I took, because I remember one of the guys was complaining that he organized an event and no one showed up, except him off course... And that was when it ended, before the relaunch of the club last year. Apologies again. | Quote: | | | | Then again it dropped down when winter came and we tried again for the third time, the time you joined (one time?). | | | | | How do you know that I only joined once, when you only joined twice (or maybe 3 times if you attended the street photography event because this was the only one that I have missed)?
iknow10ka you can arrange a new meeting, but it would be a nice idea if you first collect the feedback from the people on why did they stop showing up.
As for me, I don't have time next month... But I just thought of it, maybe I will start something in July if I have time
Regards,
Ala

Dear all,
a club exists when there are a group of people with a common interest. For example I am the secretary of the Basel English Pantomime group which is a verein and has monthly committee meetings.
People join clubs for different reasons, to enjoy the company of people with the same interest and to learn more about a subject they are interested in.
Just like when you play a sport it is always good to play people who have more experience than you because that is the way you improve. Which is why I think it is better to have a mix of people of all levels.
We get caught up in technology and what is important is what you see. People worry that if they have a point and shoot that they will be looked down in a photography group. Look at Flickr http://www.flickr.com/cameras/apple/iphone_4/ and see what wonderful pictures people take with the iphone 4.
The problem we have had is that in the end it has been 3 people who have organised all events and it should be more people who do so. Otherwise all that we do is simply go where those 3 people want to go.
Following the street photography workshop in Zurich I am keen to take some more pictures in Basel.
Are you interested ?
I am thinking about meeting up on Friday 10th of June at 17:30 and going off and taking some pictures in Basel. We will take 3 themes and you have to get the best picture for that theme. For example in Zurich it was orange, feet and bags. We would probably stay out taking pictures for a couple of hours.
It does not matter what camera you have, it is more a question of seeing things.
If there is interest I post the event.
Have fun
Martin
