City/Town: Wollishofen, Zurich
Event Type: Other
Meeting Point: Shamrock Irish Pub

There's a regular weekly Sunday night pub quiz being held at the Shamrock Irish pub in Wollishofen in Zurich that has become legendary.

www.shamrock-irishpub.ch
http://map.search.ch/zuerich/studackerstr.1
044 482 10 62

It's got very popular now.
It's lively, free to enter and a good laugh.
As it's got more and more popular you need to get there fairly early to get a table. I would recommend aiming by 6:30pm (or outside later during the summer) to be on the safe side.
But if the tables are all taken you can ask if people can squeeze up, or you can sit / stand at the bar or ask Bart if he can find you some where to sit. During the summer, some people have even participated whilst sitting on the tables on the sun terrace!

The smoking ban comes into force on 1st May, so we can see if Bart has returned the two extractor units fitted so the air wasn't too smokey.

There are more & more teams each week. If you come alone or in a couple, quizmaster Jim or Bart the everso friendly owner can pair you up with another team. You can even ask complete strangers if you can join them, it really is that friendly. Many members from this Forum attend regularly so you may even make new acquaintences.

The winners get 50CHF. Second win 25CHF (or a round of drinks - not bad considering it costs nothing).

Anyhow it's free and something fun and interesting to do on a Sunday night (8:00pm till 10:30pm so not that late for Monday morning). Laughs aplenty.

They (friendly Irish owner Bart and his team) also serve nice food from the Irish/British menu until late. You can also dine or drink outside on the sun terrace.

Different teams seem to win each week but it's more for the fun than the 'sport'.
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

What type of "knowledge" is usually tested at these quizzes? I had wanted to attend, but life got in the way.

Well lets just say that without Tom's knowledge on irrigation systems during the Byzantine area, we would have been royally screwed...

Re: The Shamrock Sunday Evening Pub Quiz

Everything under the sun - pop culture, religion, languages, literature, geography...the list goes on.

The questions are really a case of whether you know it or you dont. Sure, there are some that logical reasoning might get you the right answer but how well you do, really depends on your luck with the questions that particular week.

We were doing really well last night, full marks in one and 80-90% all the others but totally bombed on the last round. Phoey!

PS: PG, will save you a seat next week.

You mean 'Sham'rock hard questions Nicky?
Saint Obama and the Holy Grail just knew the answers this week but other weeks usually come mid table.

Becky you were asking about joining our team next week, we can negotiate your membership fee at the comedy on Friday.

Nice to meet a few more new faces last night, had great fun.

Cheers,
Higgy Baby

Pretty sure you were home about 10 hours before 11:30am

And Higgybaby keep your hands off Becky - we're keeping her in case next week has a round on string instruments...

Fab!! Looking forward to it very much! thanks HB, meet you tomorrow then! Will be there around 7ish or after I reckon. Becky
But I don't blame you she's a lovely girl, and 50 francs split between two is better than three.
Anyway what did you guys say to poor Becky to make her rush for the tram a leave a full glass? ;-)

See you next week?
HB

It involves a conversation about Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp... but both at the err... same time. Don't ask.

As an outsider to this event, you know you guys sound sometimes extremely creepy with your post-game descriptions? Just saying...

Thanks for pointing that out Sysgirl.

Caveman like banter aside, it is a good laugh and I think new people can testify that it's quite easy to join a team and enjoy it (even if you come alone) for the first time.
After the quiz this week three teams all ended up sitting on the same table and had a good long natter.

You were asking questions about it last week. I'm sure you'd have fun if you came along. It isn't cliquey.

Maybe Weejeem can shed some light for you.

Cheers,
HB

We were only kidding, and it was following a conversation at a table before we joined you guys. I assure you Becky leaving was nothing to do with that, and there was nothing creepy about it. People have much, much worse "caveman banter" at EF meets... there was nothing sinister about it.

Leave it out! There was ONE Greek mythology question, and that was by request!!!

I have no idea what this means or what I'm meant to say at this point .

Joking aside, the quiz has been running since the beginning of the year and
it's fun enough that people will haul @ss to Wollishofen from quite some
ways away (e.g. Basel, Winterthur, even Morgenthal) on a Sunday evening;
culturally, a real melting-pot of nationalities and professions.

The questions are really easy if you know the answers, but can be difficult if you don't
