For Aussie fans - 1st World Cup match

Dear all Australians and friends of OZ in Zurich,

Next Monday June 12th is kickoff for the first game involving Australia. For those of you who can get the time off, I have reserved a few tables for a group of us to cheer on the boys against Japan. Match starts at 3pm. We are meeting at 2, and I've asked the manager to get some Vb's in for us. This is an open invitation to Australian ex-pats and friends.

Where: Forum Bar (Badenerstrasse & Langstrasse 8004, Tram 2 or 3 to Bezirksgebaüde)
When: 2pm
Section Reserved: Yes for Aussie supporters only, no other bookings permitted.

Wear Green & Gold!!!

Cheers everyone!

I am Australian, proud and heading to Zurich; but will only get there post group stages - so if Australia makes the round of 16 and this gathering is still on - I'm in!

Re: For Aussie fans - 1st World Cup match

Hi Mark, yeah sure - I will keep you posted here. Forum is my local and I've got it all sorted, so we might end up staying there for future matches, otherwise a different location will be announced. Looks like the group is getting big already! If anyone intends on turning up please reply here so I can update the numbers. Cheers!

Australian Slogan and Poem for Aussie Football fans

Hi Aussie fans at the World cup 2006,

Many people in the Australian media have said that our 'Aussie Aussie Aussie...Oi Oi Oi' and 'Come on Aussie Come on' slogans are a bit short, especially as compared to the ditties sung by the English fans. And, good Australian poems are too wordy as slogans.

Here is a slogan I wrote using Aussie parlance.

Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

I present the above slogan to all Aussie sports fans: take it, shout it, and inspire the players to win more matches.

Also, I have developed this slogan into a poem celebrating Australia's historic win against Japan at the FIFA 2006 cup.

"Downunder Thunder"
By Nalin Kant

Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Japs kick it hard, and
Ref makes a blunder
Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Trained 'em hard to win
Guussy mad with anger
Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Kick it left, kick it right
Timmy, kick not asunder
Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Aloisi not too far
He can do wonder
Guys from Downunder
Bring on the Thunder

Guys from Downunder
Make biggest Thunder

Happy shouting!!
Nalin

Re: Australian Slogan and Poem for Aussie Football fans

I've merged this into this thread so that the Aussies preparing for the match against Brazil on Sunday can learn your ditty and sing it as they face the smiley boys.

Thanks Lob, that's good. Anyone who is going to pre-match get togethers, please feel free to print copies and distribute. Nalin
