And.....I'm back. How is everyone??!
Okay...so, I haven't read the book yet but will do my best to get my hands on a copy so that I can come to the next meetup. (assuming I can get the baby down and catch the train). That being said, I'm voting for not next week...but the week after that. Perhaps the 30th?
Looking forward to seeing everyone!!
Cheers,
rebecca

Hoping not to bore anyone....but:
Xander is a beautiful baby boy. He was born on April 1 at 3:30am. 3.4kg & 49.5cm (or 7.5lbs, 19.5inches). He's an angel. Nurses like a champ, sleeps the day away and much of the night too. He's smiling and giggling....and seems like he has lots of things to say already.
Delivery was hell. Hospital (Morges) spectacular. Motherhood = dreamy.
All of that said....I need some grown-up conversation and a glass of wine please. (I will, of course, bring some photos to share).

Ok, bookworms, how are we doing for the regular meet up...
My schedule is back to normal, got back from home, yay. We should definitely meet up before summer takes us to all corners of this planet. Who is for the next Wednesday?
It would be cool if we happen to find the movie, too, got to search around for that or pick it up next time I am in Prague.
Anyone any other convenient date?

Next Wednesday's fine for me - will make a last ditch effort to get further into the book, which I am enjoying immensely but am reading in French (*removes smug halo and polishes it*).
Since it's very convenient online to post an Amazon link rather than try and describe a book on the night, please can I put in a bid for this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Extremely-In...7491084&sr=8-1
'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' by Jonathan Safran Foer. I read it some years ago and it was that year's 'must thrust this book into the hands of everyone I meet' title. It's very involving but not heavy going or intellectual. This reviewer describes it well: "This book is so utterly convincing that I sobbed through most of its 300 plus pages. If you mix 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' with 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' and then throw in something like 'Birdsong', you might end up with a book like this. It's the best book I've read all year. Please, please read it. "
Most importantly it's a fairly quick read; largeish type, good white space and quite a lot of the pages are illustrations (that form part of the story).

OK, is this wednesday too short notice, though? People seem rather dormant, it's this time of the year..I am ok for the next following wednesday as well. Maybe we should put up a calendar entry?
Foer is fab!

I don't really have too many preferences, the chances that I am travelling on a wednesday is unfortunately 50/50, so if takes place on a wednesday, I may or may not be able to make it...
So far it seems that I will not be travelling this coming wednesday, but that might be too short notice for some.

I am in a constant state of up and down at the moment so I can't say for sure but in theory this Wednesday works for me.

is it definitely this wednesday?
this wednesday is a no-go for me, but next wednesday (the 7th?) works. My son will be leaving for ny with my folks so i may be drinking heavily and quietly sobbing in the corner. don't know if i'll have the time to read the book as the folks are here this week and i've got a full plate, but i'll come anyway for the company |

I posted a social event, it's in the calendar so let's mark the RSVPs so we know who can and who can't. It's a lovely book, time to pick it apart (or just have some vino, it's gona be lovely hanging outside, haha).
Luise, I got the Foer you mentioned, weehee, so I am all for it.

Having a difficult time with my host family at the moment, so sorry it's been badly organised lately guys.
I can't come this wednesday as I'm taking my friend to the airport as she's leaving Switzerland for good.
See you all soon xxxxxxxxx

Seems like too few are participating in the next one as well... maybe it needs to be moved to the week after.

I can make it, that's not a problem. I just hope we won't be less than half a dozen for what was really a rather good book in my mind |

I shall see how I am tomorrow... and will come if I can - having bought and read the book I want to discuss it but it's just rather hard to tell if I'll be well enough to cope or not.
