| | lausanne area poetry club
okay... taking the bull by the horns here...
so the lausanne/morges book club is a success and some of us have been brainstorming about a poetry club- some who write it, some who just like to read it.
i'm hoping to meet before the holidays, if possible.
and since the book club meet up on wednesdays works- maybe it's good to do the poetry on wednesday nights too?
let's start to throw out some dates on what works for the first meeting-
the where, when and what of it all!
to start the ball rolling, i'm putting out December 9th or 16th possibly in the same bar as the book club (Hotel De La Nouvelle Couronne, Morges)
as it is central, accessible to the train station and pretty accomodating to a small group.
any ideas?

I'm here both Dec 9 and 16, and the lounge in Morges was a nice little place.
I'm not very difficult I guess
Bring it on!

so far so good. what do you think, should we bring a book/collection of poems we like/want to read, or a singular poem to go thru and a work of our own or an assignment kind of thing to write?
any ideas?

Amaraya putting out,
A treat for all, I'd say
But let's not spread it all about
Else she'll be there all day.
Let's keep it twixt ourselves, me lads
Keep mum, no: Not a word!
For she's a precious specimen,
This fine poetic bird!

dougal- you should get a move to morges, i think!
i'll tell my husband soft and sweet
it's off to morges i go
for poetry till 10:30
and he speaks french, you know!
so all the plans
typed thru my hands
for giving up the goods
will stay tucked in our english club
until, of course, next month!

Very funny guys/gals | Quote: | | | | | so far so good. what do you think, should we bring a book/collection of poems we like/want to read, or a singular poem to go thru and a work of our own or an assignment kind of thing to write?
any ideas? | | | | | I think poetry is a very individual thing. I for example prefer slightly mysterious, melancholic poems, whilst someone else might be inclined to enjoy more happy, upbeat poetry.
As we're not restricting ourselves to a slightly larger opus such as a book (which of course takes more time to read and discuss the various plot twists and aspects within the text), I would say that the poetry club could be a little more open in the sense that:
a) those members who like to read poetry, but don't necessarily write them, could bring along a favorite poem or two of their current liking for recital and general chit chat
b) those members who instead prefer to write poetry, could bring along a few of their poems and do the same as above
This in my opinion could satisfy a few different views as everyone could bring a little something to the table without sticking to a strict regiment.
Now I personally do not know anything about "SUNY" and how this would work out in relation to what I said above, but I'm all ears if you can explain this to me and if it helps direct the poetry club in a direction that makes this event a success.

Hehe...nice.
Okies, I am for dec 16th, actually, at 8pm? Might be a little late, as I will be running from Geneva. I will bring what I need to look at, let's just meet up first and see who and why they want to meet, discuss ideas, read, etc..
If anybody wants others to read something (like the lit club we go to), bring that work, book or poem with you, we can keep a reading list or keep it spontaneous, or both. I would welcome poetry written in French, too, I am reading Jacques Prevert, so I can bring a few things by him.
SUNY is just a school, Shin, has nothing exclusive to do with poetry. Just a coincidence..
Spread the news amongst yer friends, too, I will try to draft some knitting or art freaks, so we have a group. And then, we can eventually move it to Lausanne-Geneva Poetry Club, weehee, we might actually have more interested people. But I do like that bar, fo sho. (we can't forget to call the dude in the bar, so he does not flip...but I feel there will not be that many peeps)
Hurray for poetry.

This really was a good idea!
I had a great time with you ladies, the discussions on the various poems and poets was great, learned about some new poets on the way too and really enjoyed your translations of the Czech poems, MusicChick
So I guess we could do the next one on Wednesday the 27th of January next year? And as planned, this time closer to the date, everyone throws in one poem for "pre-sharing" and everyone also keeps 2 poems aside for "on-the-spot" discussion. Let's see how it all goes
We can decide on how to share the poems etc closer to the date. Maybe get one person to gather them all and share them to the others via PM's. I'll also start a glocals event when we get closer to the date to see if we can "steal" a few people from there as well hehe.
Now where did I put my pajama's... haha

So, what about the next poetry club meeting? How's end of the month sound like?
I can make a post about this on glocals to see if we can get a few more people on board
I personally am good for wednesday 27 of this month or 3rd of next month.
Here's a short poem I wrote in Starbucks today whilst goofing around and thinking about the "Pajama" poem Silent Scream
Difficult to comprehend
These feelings of mine
Seeing you
Makes it all the more complicated
I will never comprehend
These feelings of mine, again
Yet inside
My soul screams a silent scream

So this wednesday? Who else can make it, amaraya perhaps ?
I'll make a post on glocals on monday to see if we get any bites over there too And we need to make an event post here on englishforum as well.
Within that particular post, we can each add one pre-shared poem, and I'll ask those from Glocals who are joining, to send me their poem of choice by PM/email so I can post them within the englishforum social event for wendesdays Poetry club.

Well ladies, that was really cool once again
Very interesting chat we had about Bohumila Grogerova and her poetry in both Czech and English, I really enjoyed Sherman Alexie as well (we gotta do the book thing!) and the "Little Words" by Amaraya was a real pleasure to hear as well in both Spanish and English
Can't wait for the next time!
And for those who didn't come, you have no idea what you missed
Oh, and I think I'll finish the night off with a... little different poem of mine, for giggles: My Cat ------ I have a cat on my lap He makes a little noise I think he wants food So I feed him... Simple
