Any Interest in Playing Pool?

So I am (well, was) an avid pool player. Not billiards, but pool. I love 8-ball and 9-ball both and used to play at least four times a week back in the states, but due to (in)convenience and cost, I am not playing now. And I miss it immensely.

If I organize a Zurich pool night sometime next week or even a mid-afternoon event (next Thursday since it is a holiday or on the weekend), would anyone be interested? I am trying to gauge if there are actually any pool players out there. I remember someone trying to put together a night back in December, but since I was unable to go, I don't know if it actually happened.

Also, it would be a good excuse for us 'Americans' to get together and be loud... But of course, non-Americans are always welcome.

Re: Any Interest in Playing Pool?

JLF, great idea! I like pool though definitely not as sharp as my other half who is quite the pool shark. Will probably join if its on Fri evenings or weekends!

We usually go to Billardino behind the Abaton cinema on Escherwyssplatz, if you are looking for possible venues.

Yep, Billardino is the only place I have played since moving here, so that is most likely where I would hold the first event.

I went there the other day, brilliant place... everything is spick and span. Quite pricey though (but hey, it's switzerland). An EF pool competition/ladder would be great.

Bit too far for me. Good idea though. I play once a week at Cherry Bowl.

So this is what I would love to set up. Kinda like an EF pool league. But I have to gauge interest and get people out there for a few weeks before I can actually determine if anyone would commit to something like this. If I could play once a week or once every two weeks, it would make me very happy.

I'd be more than willing to join you for a game and a beer. I have a colleague and another friend or two that would come too, so we could put out a couple of tables and keep the game turnover reasonable. I love pool.

You play by the American rules I hope? ie shot only counts if you named the pocket and it goes in etc

PS: I am up for for a game of 9 ball anytime too.

I'd be in for a few frames. You need some English restraint to keep the noise down

Re: Any Interest in Playing Pool?

I am crap at pool but have no problem to lose.

Organizing a pool event was one of the first things I did on EF about 2.5 years ago... and it was great. I made some attempts afterwards, but there was not enough interest. So if I can somehow manage timewise, I would love to join.
I find Billiardino is simply the best place for a larger group for its location, but the atmosphere is a bit "not enough pub" for me, so I prefer the "In der ey": http://www.ey-site.ch/

But that could be the location for a second event then...

Re: Any Interest in Playing Pool?

Maybe we should set up a table for people who want to play good old English rules as well.

What are english rules? Is getting blind drunk a pre-requisite?

Yes, American rules. I am not, however, opposed to 'other' rules as long as (I think) they are legitimate. hehe. No, we could have several tables with different rules associated with them. If, however, it becomes a league-type setting, we will have to agree on one set of rules. And if I am organizing, it would be probably be modified BCA rules (http://home.bca-pool.com/displaycomm...4#generalrules) because the games go fast and it is still legitimate for the good players but gives the not-so-good players a chance too...

I am not opposed to any location (because I have only been to one). So I will check it out and then decide based on the interest. Again, this was more of a 'feeler' post. Gotta find out who my pool-playing friends are.

Excellent, exact same rules I stick by on the table.

Pssst...am playing next week if you are keen to play earlier.
