Ok, sorry but I will have to go to lunch on Sunday. I look forward to the next outing and using my Russian rangefinder then.

Now that was a comeback that kicked ass!
20 people turned up. I hope everyone enjoyed today's event and I hope the newbies learned something new. Remember to post your (max 10) favorite photos on our flickr page and give each other constructive criticism.
Then we had planned another meet up at Lällekönung on the 27th to discuss.
Cheers! | The following 6 users would like to thank Begga for this useful post: | |

Yeah, it was a good day. Well worth the short trip up to Basel to see you lot again. As usual I think I've got a memory card full of crap, but you never know, there might be a couple of pics that I can work with
Big thanks to Begga for organising this |

Thank you for the great day - and allowing this Schaffhausen guy to come, heheh!! It was great and being able to talk to a few people and just enjoy a great day.
Got some good advice on buying a camera, so maybe next time will have something other than a Kodak, hehe!!
Also Begga, thank you very much for the notes I was able to read them on the train from Zurich to Schaffhausen - very informative !!!
Hope you will have more of these, though I can not make anything during the week (so hint hint, if you really want to keep me away, then schedule everything during the week, LOL!)
Thanks Again,
Ernie

Cheers guys. Thanks for coming as well, especially Slaphead and ErnieH for travelling from Zürich and Schaffhausen. | Quote: | | | | | As usual I think I've got a memory card full of crap, but you never know, there might be a couple of pics that I can work with | | | | | I know what you mean, I actually learned a lesion as well. I haven't done street photography for a long time, probably not since I started to shoot full manual. I could feel sometimes how difficult it actually is. You stand in a shadow and take a photo, then you walk 5 steps and you are in the sun, see a moment, need to change your whole settings and boom - moment gone... | Quote: | | | | | Also Begga, thank you very much for the notes I was able to read them on the train from Zurich to Schaffhausen - very informative !!! | | | | | Very welcome, glad that they were at any help. You stand in a shadow and take a photo, then you walk 5 steps and you are in the sun, see a moment, need to change your whole settings and boom - moment gone... | | | | | That's the reason I generally leave my camera in aperture priority mode (I control aperture and ISO, camera controls shutter speed) when on walkround shoots like these. I'm not a purist, and don't really see any point in "chasing the needle" - especially when conditions are changing and the moments are fleeting. In fact I see manual mode as a disadvantage when it comes to this style of photography. As you say, by the time you've dialed in the settings the moment is more often than not gone.
Sure I use manual mode, but normally when I need consistent exposures across a series of shots, when I want to create a specific effect in camera, when I'm using flash, or when I've got a scene that I know will fool the camera's metering.
I hear a lot of people saying that manual mode is the only way to go, I've got no problem with that. However for me being able to tell the camera to take on part of the technical workload and leave me to concentrate on the creative aspects often means generally better photos, and far fewer missed shots.

I'm about 50/50 if I will be able to make it tonight.
A day of horror at work has lead to migraine and I have to see if my drugs are affective enough to make it go away before the evening. I'll sms BaselLife before 8 to confirm or decline.
