22.10.2010 17:30 to 23:30
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zürich
Event Type: Drinks/Bar
Meeting Point: Devi's Bar, opposite Wiedikon station

Powered by the Zürich Hash House Harriers ('a drinking club with a running problem'), this treasure hunt will have some familiar features and some new.

We will start at Devi's Bar between 17:30 and 19:00 and finish there quite a lot later, with Glühwein and other good things to welcome us back.

Your team wins by earning the most treasure hunt cash (Beeros). You can earn Beeros in many ways:
- Follow the flour trail without using the map provided.
- Answer questions about things you see on the trail.
- Answer questions in quiz bars.
- Perform a challenge in the challenge bar. In the past challenges have included singing, dancing, poetry, charades and much else.
- Stay a while in the Barmuda Triangle.
- Choose one of the World Cup nations (teams are identified by nation). Dress and act as that nation. Reservations in advance or first come first served.
- Drinks in quiz bars get some Beeros. Drinks in 'bonus bars' get extra Beeros.
- Finish early.
- Organisers will pay you if you buy them drinks or please them in other ways.
- Selling goods, knowledge or services to other teams.
Organisers in the bars mark answers, judge performances and pay Beeros on the spot.
This event is similar to other treasure hunts we've organised. Here are some photos from a treasure hunt in Seefeld with a Euro teams theme and here are the photos from the January 2010 event.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Thanks Puzzler... I will keep Spain and hope that my team does as well as they did in the real World Cup.
What is the MINIMUM number of members I need for my team?
Thanks!

No restrictions on size. 3-5 is most comfortable (you can fit around a bar table and discuss things). Bigger teams are slower. Winners were always teams of 4 or 5 I think.

I would prefer not to have teams of 1 or 2 since that could mean we run out of teams. If you don't have many people you can find more at the singles bar at the start.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

The competition is heating up. You might want to consider some training. You get points for right answers and also for performances, drinking and bribing organisers so look at some cross training that combines more than 1 skill.

Every Sunday there is an excellent pub quiz at the Shamrock in Zürich Wollishofen. Good for the intellect and drinking. Next Sunday, the 17th, I'll be the quiz master.

Every Thursday the Zürich Hash House Harriers have a walk / jog / social. Good training in drinking and trail following. You'll meet several of the organisers, which will be useful for preparing your bribes.

If you would like to be part of a team, but don't know enough like minding people, post here! If you don't find people this way we'll keep you in mind for the singles bar at the start.

At January's event the nice team award went to the Brazilian Devils. If you are out there please make yourself known, someone wants to be Brazilian.

Puzzler, is there a list somewhere on the net of what to wear?

All I can remember is that you get extra beerios if you wear a contraceptive...

A: This is a list and map of qualifying countries.
B: The list of countries taken so far is in my RSVP.
Available countries = A - B.
Hope that's usable enough.

Clothing list is a good question. As far as I know Victoria's Secret and the like haven't gone into this market yet so you'll just have to use your imagination. For some examples see the photos from an event during the European cup 2 years ago. Spain were very much in character - they got stuck in a tapas bar and didn't finish. France set the gold standard so far.
Wearing a net would be fine. Was that what you meant?

Contraceptives? Well, yes and no. This is not just an urban myth - teams have scored highly for interesting uses of contraceptives in the past. However, in this competition you should really be in character of your country. Catholic countries might use a calendar, for example. Some oddball places like England might use them on non-standard body parts or miscellaneous objects.
You'd also need to consider that any contraceptive would need to be visible to get the beeros, which is not normally the case under field conditions. Think twice before using femidoms - our organisers are very thorough.
But if that's what you'd like to do, go ahead! I can't conceive a good reason why not.

Yeah, i was thinking about what you said, from another treasure hunt, where you got extra points for "treasure, creativity and costume", and have now found the note:

Up to 10 points each for something christmasy, a home made contraceptive, an advert for a night club, a bear, make and demonstrate an ice melter, shells, something green and gross, something to please a scottsman.

I am guessing that there is a new list for this treasure hunt though

(now why is it that there was only 1 thing on that list that i could remember ?!)

Indeed, there is something else this time. Last time the judge was a Scotsman, who was very happy to receive the treasure. This time the judge will also be happy to receive. Contraceptives could play a part, home made or otherwise.

Spain is yours. Olé! If for some reason you don't want it please let me know.

No England, US, Australia or NZ teams yet. I'm surprised. I heard rumours of Germany building a team.
Last time I spoke to him, Higgybaby will be German for the day. But do confirm with him.

Who wants England anyways? They never win anything.

Glad you asked. It's like this. In some parts of Asia buddhist monks sit silently on the street with a begging bowl and eat whatever the locals give them, or don't eat, as the case might be. Treasure Hunt organisers are similar, without the bowl. And the silence.

You see, as a low budget organisation we need to cut costs and feeding the organisers is not something we can afford this year. Sorry guys.

So although some of the organisers look, errm, well nourished, they would appreciate a nibble during their long evening. Some pizza crust, a few nuts, kebab droppings, anything you can spare will earn you a beero or 2.

Let me rephrase that. YES *drool*.

Ahem, around half the organisers are English.

Almost forgot, we don't have a Swiss team yet. How could I forget the Swiss?

And another of my friends is going as Chile. Maybe they will dress up as miners wearing sunglasses.
Another team wants to be Holland. Is that taken?
I can't see this the list B in the RSVP of teams taken up on this thread.
England may not win anything, they just invent the games in the first place a la Puzzler :-)
I think the winning team is usually a success because of the accumilation of beers bought for the organisers, women's underwear provided and in one previous Hunt, number of breasts exposed in public.......oh yes and number of answers/challenges completed correctly (almost forgot that part )

We chose Germany cos my friend misheard and thought it was a Treasure Hun. She didn't hear me reich. She's a little slow so I won't try to Prussia.
Will there be a restaurant en route cos with all the drinking some of the light weights may like some food to Munchen. I'll also bring my mate FRANK FUR The first time. He gets drunk easily but I doubt there'll be many soBRE MEN at the end of it. But having Germans on the team means we'll be motivated, you just have to want to win it BAD ENough. if they don't come first I'm sure there will be sour craut at the end bar.

Anyone else got some info on their teams?

Enough from me. 'Audi 5000'

Team allocations are in Puzzler's Yes RSVP at the top of this thread. That's the only place I know that I can safely update and is quite visible.

That reminds me, must add a rule against teams invading other teams and stealing their Beeros.
