22.10.2010 17:30 to 23:30
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zürich
Event Type: Drinks/Bar
Meeting Point: Devi's Bar, opposite Wiedikon station

Powered by the Zürich Hash House Harriers ('a drinking club with a running problem'), this treasure hunt will have some familiar features and some new.

We will start at Devi's Bar between 17:30 and 19:00 and finish there quite a lot later, with Glühwein and other good things to welcome us back.

Your team wins by earning the most treasure hunt cash (Beeros). You can earn Beeros in many ways:
- Follow the flour trail without using the map provided.
- Answer questions about things you see on the trail.
- Answer questions in quiz bars.
- Perform a challenge in the challenge bar. In the past challenges have included singing, dancing, poetry, charades and much else.
- Stay a while in the Barmuda Triangle.
- Choose one of the World Cup nations (teams are identified by nation). Dress and act as that nation. Reservations in advance or first come first served.
- Drinks in quiz bars get some Beeros. Drinks in 'bonus bars' get extra Beeros.
- Finish early.
- Organisers will pay you if you buy them drinks or please them in other ways.
- Selling goods, knowledge or services to other teams.
Organisers in the bars mark answers, judge performances and pay Beeros on the spot.
This event is similar to other treasure hunts we've organised. Here are some photos from a treasure hunt in Seefeld with a Euro teams theme and here are the photos from the January 2010 event.

Sounds like fun, is it ok to confirm on Monday?
Sure, no problem.

In general it's no problem for some people to just show up on the day, or at short notice. However, I like to have a good estimate of numbers to inform the bars and prepare enough papers and Beeros, so please sign up and update numbers of guests as accurately as possible and as soon as possible.

At previous events slightly fewer people showed up than signed up Yes. This time I have the feeling there are more people lurking out there. Am I right?

Is there a team who fancies adopting a Goose?
Some nice chicks, perhaps? A Turkey team?

Sore point that. Two times ago my lot of 40 who'd registered were told that there were no more question papers left cos so many extra people turned up.
Can we get a copy of the papers by email on Friday pm like last time maybe?

Cheers,
HB2

Not this time. Here's why.
1. It is a surprising amount of extra work to manage delivery of the papers via 2 channels.
2. Not everyone printed and marked up the papers properly so we had extra work on the night to sort things out.
3. Unfair advantage for people getting the papers early.

Lack of papers should not be a problem this time. I will print 40 sets. So far we have nowhere near that many teams. If that changes next week I'll print more. Since there is only 1 set of papers per country you are safe if you reserve a country and I know who will collect them.

Your concern is reasonable and I hope this is an adequate answer.

These are the problems we will have.
1. Some questions will be unclear or ambiguous. This always happens and it's actually quite hard to be error free.
2. Organisers will make fast, arbitrary and sometimes wrong decisions, just as any other human referee does.
3. Beeros are a new idea. The supply of beeros and the right denominations could easily go wrong somewhere (I don't have lots of time to produce huge numbers of them). Organisers or teams might lose them.
4. There will some mess up with a bar or normal customers. So far this hasn't happened often but it's something to expect.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Less than a week to go. Time to change those 'Maybe's to 'Yes'es. There is lots of wisdom in the RSVPs already so I don't need to make anything up.

Are you still here? Did you have those drinks? Did the kneepads work (if so, does anyone else need them?)? Did you get adopted? Is the lotion in the basket (no leakage, hopefully)? Oui or Non?

Anyone who hasn't replied yet, but would 'defiantly' like to come? Don't worry if you are not experienced, because 'Two small antelopes can beat a big one'.

Noooooo!!!!!

I thought that wearing that crown automatically gave the wearer some sort of divine status, and hence can never be wrong(!)

It does , but there are around 20 organisers, not all with divine status.

I suppose we are a cross between a priesthood and a mafia family. People can judge from our little ceremony at the end which is more appropriate.

On the subject of organisers people need to know that all of us will have about 200 beeros pocket money for the night and are very much open to bribery. The opinions of the bar staff will be important too.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Less than 3 days to go. 21 organisers ready plus 15 teams plus other teams that form on the day plus people who will sign up in the next days. I predict 120 people. That would be just nice.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Papers and Beeros are printed and ready to go. There's enough for 40 teams. I guess we'll have around 22. 100+ signed up here and there are quite a few off thread too.

Still no England or Switzerland. Don't be shy.

See you soon!

Ok, changed myself to a yes. As for team name... I guuess we should take Switzerland as the one common thing binding our motley crew of brits, yanks and ozzie convicts together. We may also have a spare place for a select straggler or two!

We are ready to go. The organisers are looking forward to meeting everyone and have a few surprises up their sleeves.

If you fancy coming early you'll find a few of us already in Devi's at 17:30.

Shame you lot were such a laugh last year!

Right - I will be at one of the bars in the Barmuda Triangle. Come look for me - say hi and to the other belles in there if you want to earn lots of beeros to get an edge over the other teams. Beware, tasks will not be easy though. But we can be easily bribed.

I have high hopes for certain teams and I know of a certain who've already met up earlier during the week to discuss strategy. Serious business.

Wear comfy shoes, wrap up warm, bring your sense of humour and you'll be all set. Look forward to seeing everyone tonight!
