22.10.2010 17:30 to 23:30
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zürich
Event Type: Drinks/Bar
Meeting Point: Devi's Bar, opposite Wiedikon station

Powered by the Zürich Hash House Harriers ('a drinking club with a running problem'), this treasure hunt will have some familiar features and some new.

We will start at Devi's Bar between 17:30 and 19:00 and finish there quite a lot later, with Glühwein and other good things to welcome us back.

Your team wins by earning the most treasure hunt cash (Beeros). You can earn Beeros in many ways:
- Follow the flour trail without using the map provided.
- Answer questions about things you see on the trail.
- Answer questions in quiz bars.
- Perform a challenge in the challenge bar. In the past challenges have included singing, dancing, poetry, charades and much else.
- Stay a while in the Barmuda Triangle.
- Choose one of the World Cup nations (teams are identified by nation). Dress and act as that nation. Reservations in advance or first come first served.
- Drinks in quiz bars get some Beeros. Drinks in 'bonus bars' get extra Beeros.
- Finish early.
- Organisers will pay you if you buy them drinks or please them in other ways.
- Selling goods, knowledge or services to other teams.
Organisers in the bars mark answers, judge performances and pay Beeros on the spot.
This event is similar to other treasure hunts we've organised. Here are some photos from a treasure hunt in Seefeld with a Euro teams theme and here are the photos from the January 2010 event.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Who.will win?
Will Weejeem really.come?
Will Higgy Baby dare to sing Deutschland Deutschland Uber Alles to motivate his German team mates?
How many bras will be collected in total?
Who will be the most drunk at the end?
Which teams will not finish?
How long is a piece of string?
Will the riot police be called out?

These questions and more will be answered TONIGHT!

I have got Fat Boy Slim's 'Right Here, Right Now' in my head.

It's gonna be HUGE!

If you're curious come along and find out. The charming kind organisers can fix you up with a team if you come alone. With no bribes! You don't normally get something for nothing from those guys....but it is free of charge. :-)

See you soon.

T-minus 10 minutes. Bring it on.

Higgy Baby

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Thanks a heap to the organisers for arranging such a great event, you can really tell a lot of work went into it. I think the only bad thing about the night was getting lost on Langstrasse for around 30 mins. During that time we had about 5 crack-ho's offer us their haggard bums, 4 men offer us hard drugs, and were circled by 3 guys who saw us opening maps and arguing and probably presumed we were lost tourists who would make for an easy mugging. Oh yeah and how could I forget, the bald psycho that accosted us outside the Bierhof pub who went silent and crazy-eyed after we'd chatted about Auslanders and I asked if he was from Zurich.

Seriously though, really fun night. A big shout out also goes to the lovely manageress of Devis who gave me a free shot of Jagermeister after hearing my Langstrasse saga.

And as a reply to my previous commenter, the Langstrasse for me and Denmark (my bribers) was part of the experience, excitement.

How many times in life can you be challenged in such ways?

It's a treasure hunt after all = adventure

Dont understand ur last comment but sounds unhappy. Didn't mean "that". English is not my mother tongue so I am sorry if sounded like offensive.

Was just suggesting to look from the more cheerful side, not from the "The only bad thing was..." side

Peace!

Yeah, it was a great time! Thanks to the organizers, those that (wo)manned the bars, and my team. I had a purse full of props and didn't use any of them. . . well, except that condom. And even then, I handed it over to the two guys on my team so they could use it.

Eh, the night ended in crazy fashion, as usual. It was all in good fun.

You used a condom, then handed it over to two guys on your team so they could use it? Gods teeth woman, it was a treasure hunt, not an orgy.

Oi! I didn't use it first. They needed it for the "guess the disease" charades. I do wish we had had to use more props though. We were ready and willing.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

OK photos are now up on flickr. You can see them (here) - Link removed as photos are no longer available. Currently they're not in the EF treasure hunt group as it's a bit time consuming to add over 200 photos when you can only add 6 at a time. This will change over the course of the week.

Sygirl was running around with my other camera so although her photos are on my stream I've credited them to her - All photos with a name starting with Sygirl101 are hers.

Enjoy.

They are copyrighted, so you'd need Slapheads permission.

I've changed the license on the photos to creative commons so they should be downloadable now.

Be aware though that the photos as uploaded are a max of 800 width/height so they're OK for web but not much good for print.

but i guess thats NSFW....

Just to add that even though I've disabled comments and tagging on the photos to prevent identification of individuals, there may well be some of you that are uncomfortable with your image being there.

If that is the case then send me a PM with the filename of the photo and I'll remove it.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Oh god, what a night. I dont think that pole at the Barmuda bar aka Panteras Bar has seen so much action in one night.

For those of you who've skipped that bar, the tasks were:

1. 2 picture rounds
2. Make or have a drink that best represents your country
3. Pole dancing
4. Face painting

Everyone were such good sports at letting the organisers in the bar have a field day, drawing on their faces. Loved it. Not sure what happened to Team Greece. They seemed to have merged with Argentina by the time they got to the bar. As for the others...

- Team North Korea for their "never say die" attitude on the picture rounds and a great creative, but bloody strong drink that represented North Korea so well.
- Team Ghana: what a bunch of smart arses. They were the only ones who scored full marks on the picture rounds - something we tried to make rather impossible even with Google.
- Team France: when I said "a drink that represents your country", I was hoping for some champagne - not that vile drink, whatever it was that I was given.
- Team England, Jamaica, Germany, Holland, Iceland, Denmark, India and Spain, you guys were fantastic sports, especially on the pole. You made all the belles in the bar really happy, not to mention those other patrons. They really got more than they've bargained for.

I am awaiting more stories from Puzzler about that night! I do hope he's alright. His voice was almost gone when I left.

Till next time....

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Have just about recovered, but haven't got round to emptying the Official Treasure Hunt Rucksack yet.

This was a tough course, with lots of questions and things to do. Winning scores were over 1000, whereas in the past a score of 600-700 would be enough.

We had 19 teams, with about 100 players. With organisers and spectators we had around 120 I think. Another organiser put the total above 130.

First place went to Chile, who earned / bribed / stole / mined a humongous amount of beeros. Did you have mistresses outside providing you with beeros?
2nd to 4th was very close, with a pushy and persuasive Jamaica just edging out enthusiastic Holland for 2nd. Elegant and energetic Spain should have been awarded 3rd above Holland but I messed up the scores. Apologies, let me know when I can buy a beer.
India won the straw poll of the organisers for the nicest team.

So, what did you think of the experiments this time?
- Flour trail? Several teams had problems with this, and some missed Barmuda Triangle because the chalk was partly rubbed out.
- Barmuda Triangle? In the past we've had optional bonus bars, where you get points for drinking. This time we had opportunities for bribery, drinking, intelligence and performance in 1 place. From what I saw, people enjoyed this.
- Beeros? They worked well for the organisers, people were willing to do almost *anything* for beeros.
- The Zürich Hash as organisers? Awesome, no?

Any thoughts for the future? For example,
- Have the end bar somewhere big. Have the challenges at the end before the prize giving.
- Have mobile organisers, who pay as and when convenient.
- Any locations you'd like to visit?

Thanks to the organisers and players for making the event a great success. Many thanks also to the bars, who were:
- Devi's, who went to great lengths to help us again. Keep in touch with them on Facebook. They are good for a relaxing evening and sometimes have live music. Sabrina has looked after the Hash and Treasure Hunts a few times now.
- Wild West = Sherif's Bar
- Barmuda Triangle = Panteras
- Angel = Brauerhof, Brauerstr. 26
- Azzurri = Rossi, Sihlhallenstr. (near Militär / Langstrasse bus stop)
- Broadway = Vollmond. They have live music on Saturdays.
- Nicky's = Depot Bar, Elisabethanstr. 28, near Wiedikon. Nicky is the barmaid.

Any ideas for new bars that would risk a Treasure Hunt invasion? The ones that work best are those owned by someone who also works there.

Sabrina has been good with some rather noisy dos and big crowds of foreigners, and has a sympathetic ear it seems. If you like Devi's keep in touch on Facebook and keep her in mind for events, like EF Friday drinks (has been done before). They do live music sometimes with big, young crowds.
